For years, the ideological battlefield between The Walt Disney Company and conservative America has dominated the headlines. From high-profile political disputes to relentless accusations of pushing a liberal agenda, Disney has been a frequent target for right-leaning politicians and media critics. However, the days of corporate culture wars appear to be definitively over.

In a stunning and highly visible pivot, Disney’s top leadership—including new chief executive officer Josh D’Amaro—recently spent time alongside President Donald Trump. This shocking meeting signals the end of years of animosity and marks a new, surprisingly apolitical era for the House of Mouse.
The Patriot Games Truce
The backdrop for this unexpected corporate reconciliation was President Trump’s inaugural Freedom 250 Patriot Games. This national high school athletic competition served as the ultimate olive branch between Mar-a-Lago and the Magic Kingdom.
The truce was undeniable from the start. Pat McAfee, one of ESPN’s highest-paid and most prominent stars, personally greeted Trump on the tarmac, shaking hands with the President. But sports television personalities weren’t the only ones making nice. Disney CEO Josh D’Amaro and ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro were both in attendance at the Patriot Games, standing alongside Trump in a stunning display of corporate unity.
Solidifying the new partnership, the event was officially streamed on the ESPN app, effectively bridging the gap between Trump’s political base and Disney’s massive media apparatus. This happy, smiling scene was a far cry from the media giant’s tense history with the President.
A History of Bad Blood
To understand the magnitude of this truce, one must look at the bitter past between Donald Trump and The Walt Disney Company.

The relationship has been fraught for nearly a decade. During Trump’s previous time in office, conservative critics heavily scrutinized Disney’s theme parks, movies, and sports networks for allegedly pushing a progressive agenda. Trump, himself, frequently attacked ESPN on social media, previously demanding apologies and claiming the network was paying a heavy price for its politics.
The feud carried well into early 2026. After Josh D’Amaro took the helm as Disney’s chief executive, he was immediately thrust into a political firestorm when President Trump publicly demanded that Disney fire ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel over a joke. Despite these recent clashes and calls for Kimmel’s dismissal, D’Amaro’s appearance with Trump suggests that the two sides have successfully moved past the animosity.
Erasing the “Woke” Label
By attending the Patriot Games, D’Amaro and Pitaro sent a clear message to the public: Disney and ESPN are abandoning the culture wars.

Critics can no longer easily claim that ESPN is “woke.” Over the past eight years, Jimmy Pitaro has made it explicitly clear that he wants the sports network to stick to sports and avoid the third rail of politics. To achieve this, ESPN has systematically parted ways with many of its outspoken progressive voices—including Jemele Hill, Dan Le Batard, Pablo Torre, and Bomani Jones. This exodus effectively removed the ammunition that conservative critics once used to attack the network.
In their place, ESPN has elevated talents who appeal to broader or more conservative audiences. Alongside McAfee—who has developed a highly publicized bromance with the President—Stephen A. Smith has become the undisputed face of the network.

At the end of the day, Disney’s decision to make peace with Donald Trump comes down to raw mathematics. As cord-cutting reduces cable’s reach, ESPN’s footprint has shrunk. In a politically divided country, Disney simply cannot afford to alienate half of its potential viewership. By standing shoulder to shoulder with the President, Josh D’Amaro has proven that, for Disney, the bottom line will always trump politics.
This is terrible to bow down to a known convicted felon and an absolutely horrible human being. I am a huge Disney supporter but this definitely is wrong and will definitely change my opinion of the new leadership of Disney and the direction the company is headed.
