The gates to Isla Nublar are opening again — but this time, you’re not watching the chaos, you’re in it.

“Jurassic Park: Survival” is an upcoming first-person action-adventure game set 24 hours after the 1993 film’s events. Now, after an 20-month wait since the first trailer, Universal Products & Experiences and Saber Interactive have dropped a new behind-the-scenes video.

The footage teases a mix of familiar sights and long-teased corners of the island, from the towering Visitor Center to locations never seen on screen. Watch the new video below:

Among the revelations is the game’s central character: Dr. Maya Joshi, an InGen scientist trapped in the immediate aftermath of the dinosaur outbreak. She’s played by Payal Mistry, whose credits include My Fault: London and National Theatre Live: Life of Pi.

“The actual journey, the arc of Maya, it’s incredible,” Mistry says in the video. “She was personally recruited by Dr. Henry Wu to become an InGen scientist, to work at the park. The start of Maya’s journey, she’s unable to escape Isla Nublar.”

Whether or not Joshi can become as iconic as any one of the characters from the original 1993 film remains to be seen.

Of course, she won’t have a blockbuster classic as her springboard, but it’s fair to say that most Jurassic fans will be checking out the upcoming game. Still, whether it’s Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum), or even Henry Wu (B.D. Wong), she has some pretty enormous boots to fill.

Head of Narrative Craig Sherman points to the legacy of that original lineup while discussing new characters, saying, “These characters need to be as specific, distinct, colorful as the characters in the film. And Maya is the biggest example of this.”

He adds, “As soon as Payal read for the part, we knew she was going to be our Maya.”

Mistry is also aware as to how much pressure she’s under when it comes to crafting a rich and memorable character. “She’s incredibly passionate and adventurous. I think she takes risks, she steps outside of her comfort zone,” she says of Maya Joshi.

“I feel like I’m learning a lot about myself… I think I’m standing on the shoulders of some of the coolest female characters in cinema history. It’s incredible.”

There’s no release date for “Jurassic Park: Survival”.

The game will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
