In a disheartening update for Disney Park guests, Disneyland Resort’s Space Mountain shut down suddenly this week. A guest trapped on board the Tomorrowland roller coaster shared their experience online.

This indoor roller coaster is an icon of the Disney parks. Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, Tokyo Disney Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, and Disneyland Paris Resort each have their own versions of the intergalactic attraction.
Over the years, Walt Disney Imagineering has modernized certain Space Mountain attractions around the globe. Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland Park (Paris) now operate Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain. Tokyo Disneyland’s Space Mountain closes later this month for its transformation into Space Mountain (2027).
Some overlays are temporary. Hyperspace Mountain comes to Disneyland Park seasonally, while Magic Kingdom Park boasts festive overlays exclusive to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party and Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party.
This week, TikTok user @drewcunn shared this video of their party trapped on Space Mountain at Disneyland Park. The Disneyland Resort guest experienced a rare phenomenon: seeing the roller coaster with the lights on–a dream for many lifelong Disney Parks fans.
@drewcunn Space mountain w the lights on in California #disney
The clip shows dozens of riders stuck on rockets throughout the indoor roller coaster. A Disney cast member could be heard giving instructions on the intercom, though their exact statement was indiscernible.

“Woah,” @disneybooknerd626 commented.
The TikToker later posted another clip of rockets backed up on Space Mountain. It appears that Disney cast members didn’t evacuate riders, instead pulling each cart to the unloading platform.
@drewcunn Got stopped on space mountain cuz to many carts were out at once ????#disney
The guest claimed the ride shut down because “[too] many carts were out at once.” Disneyland Resort didn’t publicly confirm the reason for this week’s closure.
