‘Jurassic Park’ TV Series With Original Characters Finally Revealed

A long-lost piece of Jurassic Park history has resurfaced, giving fans a glimpse of an animated series that never made it to television.

A teaser for Escape from Jurassic Park, a proposed animated spin-off developed in the early 1990s, has appeared online 33 years after the original movie became a box-office phenomenon. The project was developed in 1993, but was abandoned before a full episode was produced.

The newly surfaced footage is a pitch created to show what the series might have looked like. The video was shared by Jurassic Library on X (Twitter).

While the footage has been presented as an authentic pitch for the abandoned series, some viewers have questioned whether it is genuine or AI-generated. Jurassic Library has pushed back against those doubts, responding to commenters by writing, “It’s real. We don’t post fakes.”

Meanwhile, FirstShowing.net reports that the newly surfaced footage has been verified against previously discovered production material by Jurassic Outpost, which previously documented the abandoned series in 2016.

The teaser features a distinctive animation style that combines traditional techniques with computer-generated imagery. The project was overseen by animator Will Meugniot, while artist William Stout helped develop the designs for its characters and dinosaurs.

According to Jurassic Outpost in 2016, a 23-episode first season had been outlined, although the one-minute pitch film was all that was completed.

What Would Escape from Jurassic Park Have Been About?

Rather than telling an entirely new story, Escape from Jurassic Park was intended to continue the events of Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film.

The proposed series would have followed John Hammond’s efforts to reopen the park to the public, while rival genetics company BioSyn pursued its own plans involving the dinosaurs.

Despite the work already invested in the project, the series never received the approval needed to move into production. William Stout later recalled that Spielberg was reluctant to pursue another major Jurassic Park project so soon after the original 1993 movie, although other accounts suggest he was unhappy the animated series had been commissioned without his involvement.

The rediscovered teaser now offers a rare look at an ambitious chapter of the franchise that audiences never got to see. While Jurassic Park has since spawned several movies and animated series, Escape from Jurassic Park remains one of its most intriguing unrealized projects.

The Jurassic franchise is no longer a stranger to animated projects, having released the CG-animated Netflix shows Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous and Jurassic World: Chaos Theory in recent years.
