Star Wars is about to celebrate its 50th anniversary, and Lucasfilm is finding plenty of ways to revisit the story that started it all.

The studio has already announced a number of projects and events connected to the anniversary, such as the new Welsh-language version of A New Hope titled Star Wars: Gobaith Newydd, which premieres on S4C and its streaming platforms from Christmas Day, 2026, and the Star Wars/Marvel: Hope Assembles comic-book crossover event, which begins releasing in January.

There’s also Star Wars: The Experience – A Journey Through the Galaxy, an exhibition that opens at Philadelphia’s Franklin Institute in February 2027, while the original Star Wars (1977) is returning to theaters for a limited time on February 19, 2027.

But the theatrical re-release isn’t the only way fans will revisit that iconic adventure.

A New Trilogy of Star Wars Stories

Revealed during the Lucasfilm Publishing Panel at SDCCStar Wars: A New Hope – Triple Take is a new all-ages graphic novel from Mad Cave Studios. Written by Kim Shearer and Chas! Pangburn, the project takes the events of the 1977 movie and tells them in a way that makes the original adventure feel like three different stories. That’s where the title Triple Take comes in.

Rather than simply retelling A New Hope, the book presents the story through the perspectives of Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo. Each iconic character remembers the events differently, with their individual personalities influencing how the familiar adventure unfolds.

In other words, Triple Take is essentially a trilogy of stories contained within one graphic novel.

Here’s the official description from Simon & Schuster:

“Sibling writers and Star Wars newcomers Chas! Pangburn and Kim Shearer (Double Booking) pen a fun-filled, multi-perspective retelling that reimagines the events of Star Wars: A New Hope through the eyes of the Rebellion’s most notable heroes: Leia Organa, Han Solo, and Luke Skywalker!

Luke remembers a larger-than-life mythic journey of destiny and courage, Leia recalls the dangerous reality of rebellion against the Empire, and Han? Han mostly remembers how incredibly heroic he was. See the iconic story as you’ve never seen it before, from Darth Vader’s terrifying first appearance to the denizens of the Mos Eisley Cantina to the destruction of the Death Star! Fans are in for a visual treat as a quartet of artists bring each character’s account to life.”

So, while fans aren’t getting three new Star Wars movies retelling the original trilogy, Lucasfilm is effectively giving A New Hope three different narrative perspectives as part of its 50th anniversary celebration.

Lucasfilm initially announced the graphic novel for February 2027; however, the current publisher listing gives it an April 27, 2027 release date.
