Magic Kingdom’s “Partners” Statue Is Being Refurbished In Time for 50th

While Magic Kingdom’s Cinderella Castle, EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth, Disney’s Hollywood Studios Tower of Terror and Chinese Theater, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom’s Tree of Life are the most iconic images recognized around the world, a Disney fan favorite icon is Magic Kingdom’s “Partners” statue. The Partners statue was installed in 1993 in front of the Cinderella Castle, depicting Walt Disney holding the hand of his most beloved character, Mickey Mouse. We personally have several family photos in front of the Partners status, and we’re sure you Disney fans do as well! As Walt Disney World prepares for their 50th Anniversary celebration, Disney is taking the time to refurbish the statue.

Soon enough, the “Partners” statue won’t be the only awe-inspiring piece in the park. With Disney’s recent announcement, guests will soon be able to locate golden statues of the “Disney Fab 50” sculptures that will be placed through all four theme parks in time for the 50th Anniversary. It’s no wonder the “Partners” statue is getting an update so it can be just as fresh looking as the others!

As reported by InsideTheMagic: “Guests visiting the Magic Kingdom notice that there is a new sign notifying them that the statue is currently getting some TLC.” The sign states: “PARTNERS” is receiving routine care in preparation for Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary. The process of removing oxidation buildup from patinated bronze is intensive – involving multiple phases to strip the sculpture to its bare metal before cleaning, reapplying a patina, and coating the entire figure in protective polymer and wax. We thank you for your patience as we ready Walt and Mickey for the big celebration.”

If you’re visiting Magic Kingdom soon, you may see the work being done with the Partners statue, as Disney has not yet listed when the work will be complete. No worries however, there are still plenty of beautiful photos to capture with the family! Just check out the new 50th Anniversary décor on the Cinderella Castle for example. The refurbishment of the Partner statue will surely be worth the wait!
