While there have been long-time reports that carrying a passport is mandatory at one Disney resort, guests have recently discovered that this requirement is actively enforced by cast members. Disneyland Paris, known for its stunning architecture and immersive experiences, stands apart from other Disney parks with strict identification regulations that reflect local laws and cultural preferences.
Disney parks around the world share a core identity, offering beloved attractions, iconic castles, and a dedication to immersive storytelling. However, each location incorporates unique elements that reflect the surrounding culture, including operational details shaped by local regulations.
This is especially evident at Disneyland Paris, where European Union laws stipulate that guests must carry passports when visiting its two parks.
As Inside the Magic reported in 2024, although you may not always be asked to show your passport, it’s wise to carry it during your visit to avoid potential issues. Guests from the EU can also present a national identity card, but those visiting from outside the EU – including the UK – must bring their passport.
In recent weeks, more visitors have shared their experiences on social media, confirming that cast members have been asking for identification in the parks.
One Reddit user, visiting Disneyland Paris from the U.S., recalled being asked for their ID twice during their trip. “We’re US citizens..and I had read on here the last couple weeks about needing a passport,” they wrote. “We finally went yesterday and I decided to bring ours just in case..and we ended up showing it twice. 1-We were asked for my daughters’ identification to get her face painted (she just turned 4 but looks younger). 2-Getting her bday pin at city hall.”
Although some visitors report never being asked for their ID, this experience is becoming more common, prompting further awareness. Several guests mentioned being asked for identification when making a purchase with a credit card or obtaining special park items like birthday pins.
In fact, a viral TikTok video from 2024 advised all park-goers to bring their passports with them as a precautionary measure.
The identification requirement is not unique to Disneyland Paris. Shanghai Disneyland, the newest Disney theme park, also enforces a strict passport rule for international visitors. Since December 2024, international guests are required to present passports that match the name on their ticket, a move designed to combat the issue of ticket scalping in the Chinese resort.
With these regulations in place, it’s clear that Disney parks around the world are adapting to local legal and operational demands, ensuring compliance while maintaining the magic of the Disney experience. For future visitors to Disneyland Paris, it’s advisable to bring your passport – just in case you’re asked for it.
