Next month, the Marvel Cinematic Universe will change once again on the House of Mouse’s streaming service, Disney+.
This summer, fans entered a new age of cosmic adventure as The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025) arrived, marking the long-awaited return of Marvel’s First Family. Released in late July 2025, the film reintroduced the beloved team through a fresh, retro-futuristic lens that felt both nostalgic and new. In this reimagining, Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm confront a danger unlike any they’ve ever faced–the planet-devouring Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his mysterious Herald, the Shalla-Bal (Julia Garner).
Led by Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/Thing), this version of the Fantastic Four came during a turbulent period for Kevin Feige’s MCU. The film’s 1960s-inspired style evokes the early spirit of Marvel Comics. Director Matt Shakman captured the era’s optimism and imagination, wrapping it around a story about love, sacrifice, and what it means to protect not just the world, but each other.
The debut was nothing short of strong, especially considering the lower takings of Captain America: Brave New World (2025) and Thunderbolts* (2025). Opening to $118 million domestically and nearly $100 million internationally, the movie’s worldwide launch approached a huge $218 million.
Critics praised the film’s sleek visuals and character chemistry, applauding its heartfelt tone and sense of scale. The design, color palette, and music all harken back to the atomic-age aesthetic that defined Marvel’s earliest years.
Still, even with its huge start, the film’s box office journey has had a few bumps. A significant drop in its second weekend cooled its momentum somewhat, though it continued to perform well enough globally to cross the half-billion-dollar mark within weeks. While it may not match the highs of earlier Marvel blockbusters, it’s clear that The Fantastic Four has reestablished its place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, paving the way for the team’s next big adventure.
Now, Disney has announced the Disney+ release for the most recent MCU movie. The Fantastic Four: First Steps will land on the streaming service on November 5. Disney has also confirmed that the IMAX-enhanced version of the movie will also be available on the streamer.
The arrival of the latest MCU movie on demand will undoubtedly once again change the franchise’s timeline on Disney+. Each time Marvel Studios releases a movie on Disney+, the overarching MCU timeline is adjusted so that viewers can experience the story in chronological order.
The Fantastic Four squad will return next year in Avengers: Doomsday (2026).
