The television special–directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green (King Richard) and written by Green and Jon Bernthal–will once again center on Frank Castle (Bernthal), the brutal vigilante who has appeared across Marvel TV media since 2016’s Daredevil. The character will return following the events of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, continuing his journey within the official Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline.
As with previous appearances, including both seasons of The Punisher on Netflix, Frank’s story remains deeply tied to the loss of his family—a defining tragedy that continues to shape his psyche and actions. His wife and children, including Lisa, have long served as emotional anchors in both the comics and live-action portrayals. Their deaths are not just backstory; they are the driving force behind everything Frank does.
Punisher Character Officially Recast
In the original Netflix series The Punisher, Lisa Castle was portrayed by child actor Nicolette Pierini. Now, following the release of the official trailer of the TV special, it can be seen that Frank’s daughter has been recast with a new actor. Given the nearly decade-long gap since that show first aired, recasting the role appears to be a straightforward logistical decision.
Using the original performer, now significantly older, would have complicated that visual continuity. Rather than relying on de-aging technology or archival footage, Marvel opted for a clean recast. While the new actress has not yet been publicly identified, the decision reflects a practical production choice rather than a creative overhaul.

What to Expect from One Last Kill
Set to debut on Disney+, The Punisher: One Last Kill is shaping up to be a more introspective chapter in Frank Castle’s journey. While action will undoubtedly play a major role, Lisa Castle’s inclusion suggests a strong emotional throughline.
The project will arrive shortly after the next phase of Daredevil: Born Again, positioning it as a continuation of the darker, street-level corner of the MCU. That said, it will release ahead of Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026). Bernthal will reprise his role as Frank Castle in Destin Daniel Cretton’s Spidey movie alongside Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. It is unclear if the Punisher’s role in Brand New Day is linked to One Last Kill.
With Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, The Punisher: One Last Kill, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Marvel has made a trifecta of street-level storytelling in 2026–something that opposes its recent focus on the broader Multiverse. This grounded approach allows MCU fans to explore a more centralized narrative before everything changes at the end of the year with the Russo Brothers’ Avengers: Doomsday (2026).
Avengers: Doomsday, and its 2027 sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, are setting the MCU up for a reset–one where the Avengers team will seemingly be replaced with the X-Men mutants moving forward. It is still unclear how Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and his team will transition from Phase Six into Phase Seven, but with movies lined up for the coming years, the show must go on.
And for fans of Frank Castle, the return of his past—no matter who portrays it—will almost certainly carry the same emotional weight.
