The Walt Disney Company held its Q1 Earnings call this afternoon, Wednesday, February 8, 2023, the first of this type of call since Bob Iger returned to the position of CEO.
While these calls largely focus on financials in terms of revenue across all segments of the company, occasionally, some very exciting theme park news is shared, and the latest comes with an exciting update for fans of Avatar.

It is no secret that James Cameron’s Avatar films are incredibly popular, with the original 2009 film still the highest-grossing film of all time. The recent sequel, Avatar: The Way of the Water is currently the 4th highest-grossing film of all time surpassing $2 billion globally.
And of course, as you probably know if you are reading this site, the original Avatar film inspired Walt Disney Imagineering to collaborate with James Cameron on one of the most immersive lands at any theme park with Pandora – The World of Avatar, which opened at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 2017.

During this afternoon’s call, Bob Iger quickly remarked that a new Avatar experience is in the works for the Disneyland Resort. Iger simply stated that a new “Avatar experience” is coming, with no further details at this time, however, the boomerang CEO did note that more information on the new experience will be coming very soon.
Later in the call while discussing theme park capacity, and noting how new expansions like Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge and Pandora – The World of Avatar have increased capacity by adding more space to the theme parks rather than just adding more crowds. He referenced the Disneyland experience as a lean-in to these comments, however, the conversation was so vague that we are unable to confirm if the new Avatar experience will be a full land or simply a themed attraction or event.

At Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Pandora – The World of Avatar features two attractions, Navi River Journey, and the extremely popular Avatar – Flight of Passage, along Satu’li Canteen, a quick service dining location, Pongu Pongu, a snack kiosk, and with occasional entertainment.
Theme park reporter Scott Gustin also noted that Imagineers are currently working on creating a new Avatar experience:
Imagineers are currently working on a new concept to bring more of the Avatar stories and characters into the parks — and Disneyland resort will share more details soon.
