Walt Disney World has confirmed the next round of scheduled downtime for the Disney Skyliner, and if you’ve been paying attention to the past couple of closure announcements, the pattern should look familiar by now.
Another Year of January Closures
Before getting into the newest dates, it’s worth looking at how we got here. The Skyliner closed for refurbishment from January 25 through January 31, 2026, and it is confirmed to shut down again from January 24 through January 30, 2027. Both closures followed the same basic shape: a short winter window, gondola cabins pulled from the line, and buses stepping in to cover the gap.
Now Disney has set the dates for 2028, and the gondola system will be down for a slightly longer stretch this time — January 24 through February 2. That’s a multi-day closure, a few days beyond what guests saw in either 2026 or the upcoming 2027 shutdown.
What Changes at the Resorts
As with the earlier closures, guests staying at any Skyliner-connected location should expect complimentary bus service in place of gondola transportation for the full window. That covers Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, and Disney’s Riviera Resort.
Anyone heading to EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios from these resorts during the closure will want to build in extra time for the bus loop, the same adjustment that returning guests made earlier in 2026, and will have to at the start of 2027. This closure will affect not only the dedicated Skyliner stations at the above locations but also other places across the resort. As the Disney World website states, “the Disney Skyliner station at International Gateway at EPCOT is conveniently located just a short stroll away from Disney’s BoardWalk entertainment district, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, and Disney’s BoardWalk Inn.”
Why This Keeps Happening
The Disney Skyliner links EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with stops at the resorts above along the way, and it’s become one of the more popular ways to skip the bus lines during normal operations. But with consecutive years of January closures now on the books, it’s clear Disney treats this window as a standing maintenance slot rather than a one-off. Don’t be surprised if a similar shutdown shows up on the calendar for 2029.
