In July 2025, fans said their final goodbyes to Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat. These two attractions had become quintessential parts of the Magic Kingdom, allowing visitors to explore the park’s Rivers of America.
These artificial waterways have cut through Magic Kingdom since 1971, adding to the park’s overall vibe, atmosphere, and collection of attractions.
Disney is now working on replacing and overhauling the Rivers of America. Eventually, this section of the park will be called Piston Peak, a bold and ambitious new Cars-themed area. Piston Peak takes notes from real national parks around the country, allowing guests to explore a number of new locations and attractions. Piston Peak will be capped off with its own “E-ticket” thrill ride, an off-roading adventure similar to Disneyland’s iconic Radiator Springs Racers.
The majority of Tom Sawyer Island and the Rivers of America are set to be demolished and/or paved over. However, there’s at least one section Disney seemingly wasn’t willing to part with.
Disney World Preserves Tom Sawyer Island’s “Becky” Fence

The “Tom Loves Becky” fence has reportedly been preserved, according to a post from X user @Mickey_Central. The user shared two photos, an older one showing the fence and a new one revealing it has been removed.

Disney World began tagging items and props on the island for demolition or salvaging earlier this month.
Disney theme parks have a long history of shuttered rides and attractions. As a result, the company has countless items lingering in storage, museums, and even other theme park attractions.
Fans can find all sorts of fun callbacks and Easter eggs to defunct rides inside the queue for Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: Breakout at Disneyland. A number of classic characters and items can be seen in cages high above guests, like the resort’s original “Harold” Matterhorn yeti and EPCOT’s Figment animatronics.
It’s unknown how much of the island or the Liberty Square Riverboat Disney intends to keep alive, but it seems like Tom Sawyer Island’s fence made the cut.
