New ‘Home Alone’ Remake Coming to Disney+ This Year Gets First Official Teaser

Few Christmas movie franchises have had quite as interesting a journey as Home Alone.

The original film, Home Alone (1990), introduced audiences to Kevin McCallister (Macaulay Culkin), a young child accidentally left behind when his family heads to Paris for Christmas. Its enormous success led to Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), which reunited Culkin with the franchise for another festive battle against the Sticky Bandits (formerly Wet Bandits).

Things took a rather different turn after that, with each subsequent film introducing a new hero — apart from Home Alone 4 (2002), which brought Kevin McCallister back, this time played by Mike Weinberg rather than Macaulay Culkin.

Most recently, Disney released Home Sweet Home Alone (2021), a streaming-exclusive installment starring Archie Yates.

Now, the franchise’s familiar Christmas setup is getting another unexpected twist.

Home Alone Gets New Adventure With a Surprising Hero

Disney has released the first trailer for Mickey’s Home Alone, a new animated holiday special that acts as a remake of the 1990 classic but with Mickey Mouse and Pluto in the middle of a festive home invasion.

In the special, Mickey is looking forward to spending Christmas at home until Minnie surprises everyone with tickets to a world-famous Ice Palace. But the morning rush leaves Mickey and Pluto behind, who must then defend their home from two unwelcome visitors — a raccoon and a weasel determined to get their hands on Christmas dinner — while Minnie and the others attempt to make their way back.

Watch the first official trailer below:

Not only does the special structurally mirror the 1990 classic across many of the major plot points (there are plenty of familiar scenes and inspired lines in the trailer), but the house itself appears to be modeled after the iconic McCallister home. The film is also called Mickey’s Home Alone.

Here’s the official synopsis for the upcoming special:

Mickey can’t wait to spend Christmas at home. His plans take a turn when Minnie surprises him and the gang with tickets to spend Christmas at a world-famous Ice Palace. In the morning rush to make it out the door, Mickey and Pluto are left behind and home alone. While Mickey and Pluto must protect their home from two feisty villains, a raccoon and a weasel who are after their Christmas Dinner, Minnie and the gang desperately try to make their way back home to Mickey.

Mickey’s Home Alone premieres on Disney Jr. on November 26, before arriving on Disney+ the following day in the United States and internationally.
