James Bond Is Back

Earlier this year, IO Interactive released 007 First Light (2026), which stars Patrick Gibson (Dexter: Original Sin) as a younger Bond. The game was a huge hit with fans and has sold millions of copies worldwide, and there have since been talks of sequels under Amazon MGM.

The franchise is also continuing to expand in literature, through titles such as the newly published King Zero (2026) and the upcoming James Bond and the Secret Agent Academy (2027).

Meanwhile, Young Bond: SilverFin, a new audio drama production based on Charlie Higson’s 2005 novel of the same name, is scheduled to arrive in October.

Of course, the most highly anticipated project is Amazon MGM’s untitled film reboot, which is being directed by Denis Villeneuve (the Dune films), written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), and produced by Amy Pascal (Spider-Man: Brand New Day) and David Heyman (the Harry Potter films). As yet, the new Bond actor has not been revealed, though casting rumors continue to circulate.

A New 007 Series

In addition to all those upcoming projects, IDW Publishing, perhaps best known for its long-running Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Ghostbusters series, will release a new Bond comic book series titled Sunbreaker from Grant Morrison.

“We’re pleased to announce a new comic book publishing partnership with IDW Publishing, that gives a license to write 007 to the innovative, influential, and award-winning writer Grant Morrison,” Ian Fleming Publications said in an official statement.

“I’ve been a James Bond fan for as long as I can remember and this opportunity to put my own stamp on a British character as iconic as King Arthur, Robin Hood or Sherlock Holmes, was too good to miss,” said Morrison, who’s known for All-Star Superman and his multi-year Batman run.

“Our opening 6-part adventure, Sunbreaker, attempts to create a definitive Bond story featuring everything fans love about the character and his world, while adding a whole lot more,” he continued. “Expect to see James Bond in a few unfamiliar situations, facing unfamiliar foes, in a world very like our own as reflected in a deadly funhouse mirror – a world of intrigue, violence, double cross and deception. A world through which James Bond glides like a killer shark among minnows. Charismatic, ruthless, unstoppable. With new cars, new gadgets, and a terrifying new ultimate villain ripped straight from the headlines, get ready to be shaken and stirred, as James Bond faces the greatest challenge of his life in Sunbreaker!”

Whether the upcoming comic will be connected to any other new Bond project, such as 007 First Light or Amazon MGM’s film, remains to be seen, although it will likely launch its own timeline.

There’s no release date for IDW’s James Bond series.

Meanwhile, Titan Comics is set to release Ian Fleming’s James Bond Signature Comic Strip Collection Vol. 1, a new hardcover collecting the original seven 007 newspaper comic-strip adventures, on February 23, 2027.
