Walt Disney World Resort is selling $1 Target merchandise for $4.99, implementing a staggering 400% markup on mass-produced rubber ducks now available at Magic Kingdom Park.
Disney World Debuts “New” Souvenir
A new merchandise display recently appeared in the Emporium at Magic Kingdom Park featuring rubber ducks dressed as Disney characters. On January 27, X (formerly Twitter) user @Kdodgers24 documented the collection, posting:

The $4.99 ducks wear outfits representing Donald Duck, Elsa, Ariel, Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Minnie Mouse, Mickey Mouse, Olaf, Maleficent, Toy Story (1995) aliens, and more.
Walt Disney World Resort presents the ducks as an affordable souvenir option—a rare sub-$5 item particularly appealing to families with young children seeking budget-friendly purchases. The pricing creates the illusion of value compared to typical Magic Kingdom merchandise, with basic items ranging from $15 to $50.
Identical Products at Target…For Less
The same manufacturer has distributed identical rubber ducks to Target stores nationwide for at least 12 months. The ducks stock Bullseye’s Playground—Target’s entrance retail section formerly branded as Dollar Spot—where they retail for $1 each.
Target’s version includes the exact same character designs and costumes. The manufacturer has even expanded the line with seasonal variations throughout 2025. Christmas editions featured Stitch, Angel, Minnie Mouse, and Mickey Mouse in holiday attire:

Halloween versions included Stitch, Mickey Mouse, Scar, Maleficent, and Cruella de Vil:

Target’s website currently lists a Valentine’s Day Mickey Mouse duck for $1.
Additional characters, including year-round designs like those sold at Walt Disney World Resort, are available at most physical Target stores.
Extreme Markup Exposed
Disney consistently charges premium prices for merchandise, food, and beverages—a practice guests generally accept as the cost of vacation convenience and theming. However, a 400% markup on items specifically manufactured for discount retailers crosses the line from premium pricing into predatory pricing.
A family purchasing five ducks at Magic Kingdom Park spends $25 on merchandise that costs $5 at Target. The markup becomes particularly offensive because these aren’t Disney-exclusive designs or higher-quality theme park versions—they’re literally identical products from the same production run, merely distributed through different retail channels.
The strategy particularly targets families managing vacation budgets. A $5 rubber duck appears reasonably priced compared to $30 t-shirts and $25 plush toys. Parents feel they’ve found a bargain, purchasing multiple ducks to satisfy children without breaking the bank—unaware they’re still being massively overcharged.
