After nearly five decades of carrying guests smoothly through Tomorrowland, Walt Disney World Resort’s iconic Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover experienced a sudden shutdown last week that left riders stranded. The PeopleMover has been a staple attraction since its debut in 1975 for its gentle pace and unique aerial views of Magic Kingdom Park. But even the most dependable rides aren’t immune to technical glitches.

The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover traces its roots to Disneyland Park’s original PeopleMover, which operated from 1967 until 1995. Disneyland Resort has long said its version is nearly impossible to reopen, leaving Magic Kingdom Park’s PeopleMover as the last of its kind.

On Sunday, TikTok user @samsadventurouslife shared firsthand the experience of being trapped in one of the PeopleMover’s vehicles when the ride abruptly stopped. What made the situation especially unusual was that the couple were the only passengers in their car, left alone in a dimly lit tunnel.

Not me like, please don’t leave us here Disney,” the TikTok video caption read.

In the comments, many Disney Parks fans said it was their dream to be stuck on the ride. @samsadventurouslife admitted it was “eerie at first but then enjoyable.”

“I would be stepping out and start exploring,” @beautiful.life200112 wrote.

“It was so tempting!” the TikToker replied. (Of course, they stayed safely in their ride vehicle.)

Technical issues on theme park rides can happen despite the utmost precautions, and typically don’t indicate any ongoing safety concerns. It remains unclear whether the ride resumed normally or if Disney cast members evacuated the guests. Walt Disney World Resort did not publicly address the incident, but the PeopleMover has since reopened and continues to offer its leisurely journey above Tomorrowland.

  1. A slow new day I see, as there are very few rides that don’t have tech issues at some time!

  2. Stepping out is actually a bit scary, even for the People Mover. Look up what happened to the cast member who worked at America Sings!
