A highly coordinated and incredibly dangerous social media trend has Southern California law enforcement on high alert. Just one week after a massive “teen takeover” devolved into a violent, chaotic riot in Newport Beach, authorities are officially warning that the organized flash mobs are now targeting major tourist attractions.

The Buena Park Police Department has issued an urgent public warning regarding an unsanctioned, massive teen takeover specifically targeting Knott’s Berry Farm. With a similar event simultaneously planned for nearby Huntington Beach, Orange County is bracing for what could be an explosive weekend.

Here is what you need to know about the alarming teen takeover phenomenon, the strict rules already in place at Knott’s Berry Farm, and how the unprecedented 402 arrests in Newport Beach are shaping the police response.

The Threat to Knott’s Berry Farm

The warning regarding the historic theme park comes directly from the Buena Park Police Department, whose digital intelligence units have been actively monitoring social media chatter. Organizers are using platforms like TikTok and Instagram to circulate digital flyers, encouraging large groups of youth to descend on the park simultaneously to overwhelm security and create disruptive, viral chaos.

“We are aware of an unsanctioned event being planned at Knott’s Berry Farm,” Buena Park Police Department officials announced on social media. “We have worked with park officials and our public safety partners to identify those responsible for organizing this unauthorized gathering.”

The department is making it clear that they are mobilizing to prevent a disaster. “The safety of our community, park guests, and employees remains our highest priority. We will have an increased law enforcement presence and will take appropriate enforcement action against anyone who engages in criminal or disruptive behavior.”

The Chaperone Policy is Heavily Enforced

Knott’s Berry Farm is uniquely vulnerable to these types of events, and unfortunately, this is not its first experience with coordinated youth violence.

In the summer of 2022, a similar wave of organized teen fights broke out simultaneously across multiple areas of the park. The massive brawls forced Knott’s to trigger an emergency protocol, shutting down operations and closing the park three hours early while terrified families fled the property.

In response, Knott’s Berry Farm instituted a strict Chaperone Policy. Under the current rules, guests aged 15 and under must be accompanied by a chaperone who is at least 21 years old to enter or remain in the park after 4:00 p.m. While this policy has been successful over the last few years, a coordinated, multi-state “takeover” poses a significant test to the park’s security infrastructure.

The Newport Beach Catalyst

To understand why Buena Park Police are mobilizing so heavily, one needs only look at the sheer destruction that occurred just days prior.

Over the Fourth of July weekend, Newport Beach became ground zero for a massive “teen takeover.” The situation rapidly deteriorated into widespread violence, vandalism, and sheer panic as thousands of youths overwhelmed the Balboa Peninsula. The mob obstructed major roadways and began hurling explosive fireworks at law enforcement officers.

The police response was staggering. Law enforcement made an incredible 402 arrests in just a few hours. Shockingly, authorities noted that more than half of the individuals arrested had traveled from out of state specifically to participate in the flash mob.

A National Theme Park Epidemic

The threat against Knott’s Berry Farm highlights a rapidly escalating national crisis for the theme park industry. The structural realities of modern theme parks—featuring dense crowds and narrow pathways—make them highly vulnerable to the takeover playbook.

Throughout this year alone, similar flash-mob takeover events have forced emergency closures and massive police responses at major attractions nationwide, including Kennywood near Pittsburgh, Hersheypark in Pennsylvania, ICON Park in Orlando, and Six Flags St. Louis. The problem has become so pervasive that law enforcement experts and civic leaders are publicly calling for significantly harsher consequences, with some suggesting that parents should face criminal liability when their children participate in organized takeover violence.

As the weekend approaches, the message from authorities is absolute: Knott’s Berry Farm will not become a playground for social media clout. Park security is mobilized, and anyone attempting to bring the chaotic destruction of the beach riots into the theme park will find themselves facing immediate arrest.
