The Disney Beach You May Never Have Heard Of

A Disney vacation to Walt Disney World is always needed. But sometimes, you need time within your vacation to take things a little slower. There’s no doubt that a Walt Disney World Resort trip is a busy one, and we can often leave needing another vacation!

Cruising with Disney Cruise Line is a great way to take a slower vacation that is still filled with magic. However, depending on when you are looking to cruise, there may be a pretty big price tag that comes with the pleasure. So, if you’re looking for that perfect getaway that will still provide you with the Disney experience that you long for, then we have the perfect suggestion for you!

Just a two-hour drive away from Lake Buena Vista is Disney’s Vero Beach Resort. Part of the Disney Vacation Club, this Disney Resort, located on the Atlantic Coast, offers Deluxe Studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom Villas, and even Beach Cottages for Guests to stay in.

Don’t worry if you aren’t a Disney Vacation Club Member; you can book your visit via Disney’s Vero Beach website. Alternatively, here at Disney Tips, we recommend renting Disney Vacation Club points using David’s Vacation Club Rentals. Other sites are available too if they don’t have availability for the dates you are looking to stay.

Why visit Disney’s Vero Beach?

Picture a white-sanded beach on the shores of sparkling blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Relax in an elegant Resort that offers spacious Guest rooms, giving a feeling of being at home. Sip on cocktails by the pool or enjoy a round of golf at the challenging golf courses close by.

If you’re looking to stay active, rent bicycles and explore the local community, or take part in water sports that are available at the Disney Resort and get ready to splash in the Atlantic Ocean.

How long should we stay?

There is so much to offer at Disney’s Vero Beach that anywhere between one and three nights would be ideal. One night will offer you time to relax and recuperate, enjoy the pool and beach areas, as well as explore all that the Disney Resort has to offer. Two or three nights would suit families who want to take part in water sports, cycling, and golf, and a much-needed break from reality.

What if we don’t have a car?

Not to worry! We highly recommend renting a car from The Car Care Centre, located near Magic Kingdom Park in Lake Buena Vista. Rentals are offered by Alamo, Enterprise, and National.

If you are staying in a Walt Disney Resort hotel, a complimentary shuttle service is offered to provide easy access to The Car Care Centre. You can also arrange for pick up from Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Disney Springs. The Car Care Centre is open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. every day, so you have full flexibility in arranging transport to visit Disney’s Vero Beach.

Where can we dine during our stay?

Disney’s Vero Beach has plenty to offer when it comes to dining, including a full-service restaurant, a quick-service restaurant, and two bars.

Wind & Waves Grill Restaurant is a charming bistro that is open for breakfast and dinner. It specializes in serving up seafood dishes to tie in with the coastal ambiance that the restaurant offers. Pizza, burgers, and pasta can also be found on the menu for those Guests who prefer to pass on seafood. Advance reservations are highly recommended to dine at Wind & Waves Grill, however, walk-ins are also welcome as long as there are tables available.

The Wind & Waves Market is a quick-service restaurant at Disney’s Vero Beach. This is a great place to pick up light meals and snacks that can be enjoyed poolside, or in the comfort of your Resort room. Be sure to check out a special snack at the Disney Resort too: Mickey Whoopie Pies. Perfect for any lover of Mickey-shaped food,  this chocolate pie has a creamy filling and is decorated to replicate Mickey Mouse, including Mickey sprinkles.

If you’re poolside, and in need of an ice-cold drink, there’s no need to venture inside. Stop by The Poolside Bar which offers non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, including specialty cocktails. There’s something to help keep everyone hydrated whilst enjoying the scorching sun.

The Green Cabin Room is the perfect place to retreat to after dinner, to enjoy a cocktail or nightcap before retiring to bed after a wonderful day in the sea air. Grab a seat inside and enjoy the decor inspired by the Spanish galleons from shipwrecked vessels such as the San Martin that had sailed across the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Alternatively, take a seat on the deck, offering beautiful views of the sunset.

This is also a great place to enjoy light bites and desserts. If you prefer to enjoy a hot beverage before bed, then place your order and enjoy out on the terrace in the moonlight, whilst relaxing to the sounds of the waves in the evening air.

Of course, you can also enjoy local restaurants outside of the Disney Resort. There is also a Publix store close by, making it easy for you to pick up groceries and use the kitchen facilities in your Resort room.

Make yourself at home in beautiful Guest Rooms

As Disney’s Vero Beach is a Disney Vacation Club Resort, you are sure to occupy a Guest room that provides you with an excellent level of comfort. A Deluxe Studio provides Guests with a Queen Bed and Double Size Sleeper Sofa, in addition to a kitchenette, seating area, and balcony with a garden or ocean view. Villas offer separate sleeping areas to living areas, and a balcony with a garden, pool, or ocean view.

If your party is a little bigger, you may prefer to take advantage of the Beach Cottages which can sleep up to 12 Guests. You’ll have plenty of room to socialize or relax, as each Beach Cottage has a living area and fully-equipped kitchen, 3 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms, and a large outdoor area.

We absolutely recommend taking some time to enjoy the privacy that your Resort room provides. Enjoy dinner without going over the door, or retreat to your own balcony and lose yourself in a book whilst taking in the sounds and smells of the ocean.

Enjoy special events at weekends

Prior to September 2019, Disney’s Vero Beach held two events that offered Guests unique experiences.

On Saturday mornings, Goofy’s Beachside Character Breakfast was offered at Seagrape in the Wind & Waves Grill. Guests could choose dishes from a great breakfast menu and were joined by favorite Disney characters.

On Monday evenings, Guests could enjoy a Pirate Night Dinner at Seagrape. Guests can don their best buccaneer outfits whilst feasting on a pirate-inspired dinner. Favorite Disney characters have been known to don their own pirate attire on these nights too. It’s not just Disney Cruise Line that provides the fun of Pirate Night!

We’d love to see both of these events return for Guests to enjoy at Disney’s Vero Beach. Keep checking back here at Disney Tips – we’ll update you as soon we know when these events are returning!

Visit during Sea Turtle nesting season

As part of Walt Disney’s conservation legacy, Disney’s Vero Beach Resort was specifically designed to create minimal impact on the Loggerhead, Green, and Leatherback Sea Turtle’s nesting patterns. The Resort’s beachfront is accessed beyond a beautiful hedge that minimizes the light visible from the Resort on the beach after sunset. The Disney Resort’s east-facing windows are also tinted to help with this. Additionally, there are no exterior lights that face the beachfront within the Resort.

If you’re visiting during Sea Turtle nesting season, you may have the privilege of passing by nests on the beach. Evenings in the moonlight on the patio of the Green Cabin Room may provide you with a perfect viewing spot of newly-hatched Sea Turtles making their way to the shore. Choose to vacation at Disney’s Vero Beach in June and July if you’d love to take part in a guided Sea Turtle Night Walk. Guests are able to use night-vision to see turtles laying their eggs.

If you’re an early riser, head down to the beach to see the Disney Conservation Team Wildlife in action, ensuring nests remain undisturbed. You may even get to see hatchling turtles that have emerged from their nest.

Treat yourself to a spa treatment

The Spa at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort offers a wide range of massage therapies and hand and foot treatments that are sure to help you relax during your vacation. Enjoy a massage in the privacy of your own spa room, or share a room with your better half, whilst enjoying a couples massage. Information about treatments and prices can be found on Disney’s Vero Beach website. Reservations can be made ahead of your visit, or once you have arrived at the Resort using your in-room phone.

If you’re traveling with younger Guests, they can take part in exciting games and activities in the Disney Discovery Club. Dinner is included whilst they are having fun, so you can enjoy a spa treatment before dinner and cocktails. Sounds like the perfect date night!

Fun activities for the whole family

Eb & Flo’s Rentals at Disney’s Vero Beach offers Guests the opportunity to explore the local area by bicycle. There is a range of bike sizes available, so the whole family can spend time together. Bicycles are available to rent for a couple of hours or for the whole day.

If your party loves mini-golf, then you are in for a treat at Disney’s Vero Beach. Stop by Port Holes Miniature Golf between 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., and enjoy a pirate-themed 9-hole course. Rental of clubs and golf balls are available from Eb & Flo’s Rentals.

Venture outside of the Disney Resort

Disney’s Vero Beach is located on Florida’s scenic Atlantic Treasure Coast. As such, it is a haven for nature lovers as there are so many unspoiled beaches to explore. Right on the doorstep, there is also a nearby state park, botanical garden, and river preserve to enjoy.

Additionally, the Disney Resort is located 30 minutes south of the Indian River Lagoon which is known to be home to rare and endangered species. It is also home to one-third of the U.S. population of manatees. Hike amongst an unusual mix of flora, and beyond ancient oak trees and swaying palms in this beautiful area. The waters can be explored by swimming or kayaking, so wear clothing that you don’t mind getting wet.

Pick up special Disney merchandise

A visit to a Disney Resort is not complete without stopping by the gift store. The Island Grove Packing Company is a great place to pick up Resort apparel and souvenirs to remember your beach trip. You can also rent movies from here, to enjoy in your Resort room. Pick up some Disney popcorn to make for the perfect movie night!

Enjoy a campfire sing-a-long

Join Cast Members and other Guests at a campfire sing-a-long during your stay at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort. You may even be joined by your favorite Disney characters! Located at the north end of the resort, the campfire is a great place to toast marshmallows and make s’mores after a day on the beach. Stop by the lobby upon check-in to find out the times when the campfire is available.

Take a walk around the Resort Lake

You haven’t been to Disney’s Vero Beach Resort if you haven’t explored the Resort lake. Just across the street from the Resort, you’ll find a lake surrounded by luscious greenery. Follow Peter Pan along the Tunnel Breezeway, which is just a short walk from Community Hall, and enjoy the peace and tranquility that this walking spot offers. Look out for wildlife across and around the lake, and rest on the benches around the lake to take in your beautiful surroundings.

We’re sure that you won’t be disappointed with a road trip to Disney’s Vero Beach. Whether you begin your Disney vacation with a stop at the beach Resort or end your vacation with a much-needed rest from exploring the Disney Parks.

You may even decide to plan your visit mid-Walt Disney World visit, to allow you time to recuperate some energy for a second helping of all that the Walt Disney Parks have to offer. Regardless, get ready to experience a different but no less magical Disney experience where you will make memories to last a lifetime.
