Woman Arrested After Attempting To Kill Florida Governor Ron DeSantis; Disney Operations Begin Out of State
A Florida woman has been arrested for making online death threats against Governor Ron DeSantis, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) announced Tuesday. On July 8, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) alerted HCSO to threats made on the Governor’s website by Danyele Callaway, 20, from Riverview. The threats included a demand for an “immediate in-person” meeting and life-threatening statements, according to the HCSO.
Investigators revealed that Callaway has a history of interactions with law enforcement, including arrests for domestic violence-related charges and battery on public servants. She has also reportedly made verbal threats against Gov. DeSantis in the past. On Tuesday, shortly after 9:30 a.m., deputies responded to Callaway’s home for a mental health evaluation.
During this evaluation, she reportedly admitted to making the comments and was taken into custody. “The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate any threats, especially from individuals who think they can hide behind their keyboards to spread fear and harm,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “We will not accept a threat against anyone in our community, especially our Governor…”

“…Threatening the lives of those who serve our democratic institutions is an attack on the very principles of our society and justice system. While everyone is entitled to their opinions, no one has the right to endanger others’ lives. This case is a stark reminder that violent threats will not be tolerated. We will continue to pursue and hold accountable anyone who seeks to disrupt the peace and safety of our community.”
Callaway faces charges of written or electronic threats to kill or inflict bodily injury and is being held under the Baker Act. The investigation is ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office. DeSantis is gearing up to speak at the National Republican Convention, which will take place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from July 15 through July 18. This will lead the governor to depart from the State, hopefully cooling off any others who hear of this news and attempt to commit the same crime, which is illegal in the highest caliber.
