One of the most prominent pieces of construction equipment at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort has finally come down — and the results it was hiding are now visible to Walt Disney World Resort guests for the first time since spring.

On Monday, WDWNT reported that the scaffolding surrounding the Island Tower building at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort had been taken down, revealing a new roof on the structure, which has been wrapped in construction equipment since April. The removal marks a milestone for a Deluxe Disney Resort that has been navigating one of the most extensive refurbishment periods in its 54-year history.

The scaffolding’s departure is directly tied to the long-running partial closure of outdoor seating at Wailulu Bar, the Island Tower’s dining location, which has operated with limited capacity throughout the project. With the exterior work apparently complete, that situation may soon be resolved as well.

Construction Continues at the Great Ceremonial House

The Island Tower progress is good news — but the rest of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is still very much in the middle of a renovation. The Great Ceremonial House, the iconic main lobby building that has welcomed guests since the resort opened alongside Walt Disney World in 1971, remains surrounded by heavy scaffolding.

On Monday, construction crews were observed installing metal paneling on vertical beams that were repainted earlier in the spring. Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t explained the purpose of the paneling, and the scaffolding covering much of the structure makes it difficult to assess the full extent of the changes.

For guests who have been tracking the extended closure of Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace, the latest update is another disappointing one. The outdoor extension of Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto was originally expected to reopen in “late June” — a date that came and went without any communication from Walt Disney World Resort. The official resort website has since pushed the reopening to “late October,” extending the closure by several more months with no explanation.

Walt Disney World Resort’s official guidance for guests booking Polynesian Village Resort stays acknowledges the ongoing work directly, warning of roadway reconfigurations, potential impact to park views, and noticeable daytime construction activity, while noting that most dining, pool, and amenity options will remain available throughout.
