September guests heading to Walt Disney World may want to take another look at their plans before arriving, as several closures could affect what they can experience across the resort next month.
Disney has confirmed several experiences will be unavailable for at least part of September 2026. The closures affect attractions, restaurants, transportation, and resort dining, with some lasting throughout the entire month and others beginning during the first few weeks of September.
Most won’t completely disrupt a vacation, but one is much bigger than the others. Disney will shut down an entire park during September, making its closure particularly important for guests planning longer trips or hoping to experience everything Disney World has to offer.
Here are seven closures to keep in mind before heading to Walt Disney World.
1. A Magic Kingdom Classic Remains Unavailable
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress will remain closed throughout September.
The Tomorrowland attraction closed July 6, 2026, as Disney began a major update rather than a short refurbishment.
Disney plans to refresh the show while preserving the longtime attraction’s spirit. The project will also bring a Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic figure to a new pre-show.
Disney currently expects the Carousel of Progress to reopen sometime in 2027, so guests in September can leave this attraction off their Magic Kingdom plans.
2. Frontierland Travel Still Looks Different
Another Magic Kingdom closure affects the Walt Disney World Railroad.
The Frontierland station remains unavailable as Disney continues major construction in the area. The railroad isn’t operating in its traditional full-loop configuration during the work.
Disney is transforming the former Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island area into Piston Peak National Park.
Guests who typically use the railroad to travel around Magic Kingdom should keep its limited operation in mind when planning their day.
3. An EPCOT Favorite Goes Offline
Coral Reef Restaurant at EPCOT is scheduled to close beginning September 8 for planned maintenance.
Disney expects the restaurant to return later in 2026, although an exact reopening date hasn’t been announced.
Located inside World Nature, Coral Reef offers views of the massive aquarium at The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilion.
Guests visiting during the opening days of September may still be able to dine there. After September 8, they’ll need another option.
4. A Grand Floridian Restaurant Stays Closed
The closures extend beyond Disney’s theme parks.
Grand Floridian Cafe at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa will remain closed throughout September as its refurbishment continues.
Disney has temporarily moved brunch service to CÃtricos during the closure.
Guests staying at the Grand Floridian will still have other dining choices, but anyone planning a meal at the cafe will need to adjust their itinerary.
5. Another Resort Restaurant Takes a Break
Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa is also dealing with a temporary restaurant closure.
The Turf Club Bar and Grill is expected to remain closed into late September while Disney completes refurbishment work.
The Turf Club Lounge remains available during the project.
Saratoga Springs guests also have Disney Springs nearby, providing plenty of alternative dining options while the restaurant remains unavailable.
6. Hollywood Studios Loses an Experience
Disney’s Hollywood Studios has another experience unavailable during this period.
Vacation Fun, the Mickey and Minnie animated short presented inside the Mickey Shorts Theater, is temporarily closed.
It may not carry the same weight as the loss of one of Hollywood Studios’ major attractions, but its absence still removes an indoor experience from the park’s lineup.
That’s especially worth remembering in September, when Florida’s heat and afternoon storms can make indoor attractions a valuable break during a park day.
Vacation Fun is expected to return in late September, but the exact reopening date remains uncertain.
7. An Entire Disney World Park Is Closing
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park will close for refurbishment beginning September 9.
That means September 8 will be the final opportunity for guests to visit before the closure begins.
Once Typhoon Lagoon closes, Disney’s Blizzard Beach will remain available as Walt Disney World’s operating water park.
The timing could make a major difference depending on travel dates. Guests arriving during the opening week of September can still potentially squeeze in a Typhoon Lagoon visit. Those arriving September 9 or later won’t have that option.
Because Disney is closing the entire park, its attractions, dining locations, and other experiences will also become unavailable.
What This Means for September Guests
September still offers plenty to do across Walt Disney World, but guests should double-check their plans before arriving, especially if certain attractions, restaurants, or water park experiences are priorities.
Some of these closures require only minor adjustments. Others, particularly Typhoon Lagoon, could force families to rethink an entire day of their vacation and find alternative plans elsewhere on the property.
Disney can also change refurbishment schedules, so checking operating calendars closer to arrival remains important.
