Warning, Disney diners! Sometimes when dining at a Walt Disney World Resort restaurant, your child might get taped to a chair for not eating his vegetables. And in all honesty… you’ll laugh along at the fun!
Time to gather up the family, friends, and a stranger or two and head over to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort where Central Florida collides with National Park lodges. The Disney Resort is literally a masterpiece with stunning woodwork as Guests are invited to escape to the rustic majesty of America’s Great Northwest.
Nestled off to the side of the Wilderness Lodge lobby is one of the best of the best Walt Disney World restaurants called Whispering Canyon Cafe. The invitation to dine here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner seems innocent enough, but hold on to your seats because you never know what will unfold next!
Whispering Canyon Cafe not only offers a fantastic menu with skillet-style food for a hearty meal, but the servers are some of the very best Cast Members we’ve ever encountered.
Want a straw? Don’t be surprised if your server throws you one from across the room. Need ketchup? Get ready because EVERY bottle in the restaurant is about to end up on your table.
The humor and antics are part of the coveted dining experience but weren’t always around. Even though the restaurant started out with its humourous dining atmosphere, in 2018, Disney put a slow hold on the fun by asking servers to quiet down and behave by dropping the “shenanigans.”
Shortly after the restaurant went quiet, it was quickly obvious that Disney Guests started to drop Whispering Canyon Cafe off their must-do list. It became just an ordinary Disney restaurant. Great food – but lacked much else.
The restaurant tried to please both sides of the Disney fandom by putting coasters on the table. One side was green. The other side was red. If the green side was up, the server could horse around and have a good time with the Guests. If the red side was up, the server was just your normal server. But, overall, the exciting feel of the restaurant went away.
Once Whispering Canyon Cafe opened after the COVID-19 pandemic, it came in hard and fast with the return of its antics in full force! The rowdy Cast Members were once again interacting with Guests in fun, unique ways.
Disney now notes on its website a fair warning: “We Like to Horse Around: Gallop on over to this Old Western eatery for games and good eatin’ served with attitude. Tether your trusty steed and mosey into this log-cabin lodge with rough-hewn charm and colorfully named Cast Members who have a reputation for sassing customers.”
With good food, amazing drinks, and a high-spirited crew of Cast Members, Whispering Canyon Cafe has come in with a strong return – making it an easy must-do restaurant on our Walt Disney World dining list.
