Nearly all attractions, shows, and experiences that were once closed or modified have returned to the Walt Disney World Resort. With the exception of only a couple of outliers, Guests visiting Disney World late this summer and into the fall will be pleased to see many of their favorite experiences open and ready to welcome them “home.”
For some attractions, however, hours and showtimes have fluctuated since the Parks and Resorts reopened in summer 2020. If you have a trip planned to visit Walt Disney World later this year, you will find most attractions are back to normal, but we still recommend using the My Disney Experience app during your trip to confirm operating hours and showtimes.
Some of the most popular shows at Walt Disney World can be found in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Finding Nemo: The Musical recently reopened as Finding Nemo: The Big Blue…and Beyond, and Festival of the Lion King just returned to its full production (Tumble Monkeys included!) last month.
Since its reopening, Finding Nemo: The Big Blue…and Beyond briefly saw reduced showtimes, and now it seems the same is happening for Disney’s iconic Festival of the Lion King.

Reduced showtimes for the Festival of the Lion King will begin on August 14, 2022. According to Disney’s website and the My Disney Experience app, the 1:00 p.m. showing of Festival of the Lion King has been taken off the schedule every day except for Saturdays. Except for the missing 1:00 p.m. showtime, Festival of the Lion King will continue to operate hourly from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
You can find the show in Harambe Village located in Africa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Seating for Festival of the Lion King is limited, so we would plan on arriving early to ensure that you get a seat for the showtime of your choice.
The show is a hit for the whole family as it presents Disney’s team of talented dancers, singers, stilt walkers, and puppeteers alongside beloved characters from The Lion King (1994) like Simba, Timon, and Pumbaa.
Disney’s official description of The Festival of the Lion King reads:
Delight in a larger-than-life show filled with songs, pageantry and puppetry celebrating the classic movie, The Lion King.
There is no end-date listed on the calendar thus far for the hours change, but we will keep you updated as we know more here on DisneyTips. As with all operating hours at Walt Disney World, the above update is subject to change so Guests attending a performance should double-check the My Disney Experience app during their visit. Enjoy the show!
