Space Mountain, Disneyland Resort’s iconic indoor roller coaster, recently came to a sudden halt after one of the ride vehicles veered off track into a maintenance area. Disney cast members rushed to the scene to evacuate the guests aboard the vehicle, including children.

Space Mountain first opened in Disneyland Park in 1977. Over the years, it has become one of the most popular and enduring attractions at Disney parks worldwide, including Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, Tokyo Disney Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, and Disneyland Paris Resort. Known for its thrilling twists and turns in the dark, the ride simulates an exhilarating journey through outer space. But on this occasion, the 47-year-old ride experienced an unexpected glitch that caused one of its vehicles to go off course.

Instagram user @n8thegr8clips shared a video from the ride, which showed the coaster vehicle unexpectedly taking a wrong turn and entering a maintenance bay instead of continuing along its normal route. The guests onboard waited in darkness for a brief moment before a blue light illuminated the area, and Disney cast members appeared to manage the situation.

Thankfully, Disneyland Resort cast members acted quickly to evacuate everyone aboard the ride. One by one, Disney cast members used an evacuation platform to safely pull guests from their ride vehicles. Thankfully, it appears that no guests were injured during the incident.

Details about the exact cause of the malfunction remain unclear. However, Disneyland Resort rarely publicizes the reason behind routine attraction evacuations, especially if the ride reopens quickly. Space Mountain reopened soon after the evacuation, and the ride was operating normally when the article was published on April 29.
