Thanksgiving 2020: Ten Things We Are Thankful for About Walt Disney World

2020 has been a difficult year for everyone. COVID-19 has ruined many of our plans, and it may have even affected you and people you love personally. Sometimes it’s hard to remain thankful in times like this, but keeping a positive attitude is key. Here are ten things we are thankful for at Walt Disney World this Thanksgiving.

10. Reopened

Let’s just start with the fact that we can even go back to Walt Disney World. The parks were closed for almost four months and everyone really missed them a lot. Disney did everything they could to step up and make sure that they could reopen safely. They took extra precautions for all guests and Cast Members. Although things look very different than they did before, at least we are able again to be there and enjoy Disney.

9. Safe Place

We can also be thankful that Disney does take this pandemic seriously. They are closely following the guidelines of the CDC to minimize any risk. They have set up barriers in the lines to keep people apart, measured distances, and added hand washing and sanitizing stations everywhere. Disney is showing everyone that it’s possible to have fun in these uncertain times. Although some of it may be hard to get used to, let’s just be grateful that we can all be back at the most magical place on earth safely.

8. Escaping Reality

During these trying times the fact that we can go to a world that is so different and unique is truly something to be thankful for. You can escape the madness going on in the world today at Walt Disney World. You can forget about all the stress of the outside world and just enjoy time away from everything else.

7. Cast Members

Walt Disney World would not be what it is without their amazing Cast Members. It is literally their job to give you a magical vacation, and they do not disappoint. Every now and then you might come across a Cast Member who is having a bad day, but most of the time they don’t let it show. Make sure you always go out of your way to thank the Cast Members. They can’t see your smile right now, so thank them out loud. If there’s a Cast Member that goes above and beyond, consider going to Guest Relations and leaving him or her a compliment. Disney takes compliments for Cast Members extremely seriously, and you could give them something to be thankful for as well.

6. Extra Discounts

Who doesn’t like saving money? Walt Disney World has been giving many discounts on merchandise this year. From extra passholder discounts to Bogo 2020 items, we’ve been able to get more merch for less money. There have also been some amazing hotel deals at the Walt Disney World resorts, so more people have been able to enjoy the Disney magic.

5. Disney Designs on Face Masks

Since face coverings are required for all guests ages two and older, Disney decided to come up with some adorable designs themselves. Since you need to wear a face covering, it might as well be of your favorite Disney characters or a fun Disney theme. They are reasonably priced, so you can collect many of them. Many experts agree that face masks are going to be around for a while. Make sure you have several that show off your love of Disney!

4. Epcot Festivals

Although the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival was cut extremely short this year, we have still been able to enjoy the Taste of Epcot International Food & Wine Festival. There are fewer booths than in years past, but we are still able to try amazing foods and drinks from around the world. We will also get to enjoy the Taste of Epcot International Festival of the Holidays starting on November 27,  which can put you in the holiday spirit. Many people are going to need some extra holiday cheer this year.

3. Character Cavalcades

If you haven’t been back to Walt Disney World Resort since the parks reopened in July, these are something new. Since we’re not able to have full parades or character greetings, there are Character Cavalcades at random times throughout the day. You’re still able to interact with and wave to some of your favorite Disney characters, and they will wave back at you. There are Character Cavalcades in all four theme parks, and they are a lot of fun.

2. Pooh and Joy at Epcot

To go along with the last point, at Epcot you can see Winnie the Pooh and Joy from a safe distance. They appear in the field near Journey Into Imagination With Figment. One of the most adorable sites you’ll ever see is Winnie the Pooh running around with his butterfly net. Joy is just having fun playing. Although you can’t get close to them, they will pose for photos in the distance and interact with everyone. They do not appear at the same time. Whichever you see, the site is truly adorable.

1. Time With Family and Friends

In 2020 many people had to spend time away from their family and friends. In many places there were stay at home orders in effect, and gatherings with people who do not live in your home were not allowed. We were all isolated from people we care about. Being able to go on a Walt Disney World vacation together with family and friends during this crazy time is truly something to be thankful for.
