Magic Kingdom is home to dozens of rides and attractions, some of which have entertained and provided guests with magic for over 50 years.
From thrilling roller coaster rides on Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad to classic dark ride adventures on Pirates of the Caribbean and Haunted Mansion, there’s almost no end in sight to the fantastic and immersive experiences found at Disney’s original Florida theme park.
However, not every ride or attraction can be a winner, with Magic Kingdom also being home to some of Disney’s most loathed and unpopular theme park experiences ever.
While every guest will have their own thoughts and feelings regarding the Disney theme parks and their list of rides and attractions, a few stand out above the rest as being exceptionally unpopular.
Tomorrowland Speedway

Perhaps Magic Kingdom’s most controversial and worst-rated ride is Tomorrowland Speedway. Envisioned as a way to give younger guests the chance to get behind the wheel of a “real” car, Tomorrowland Speedway can be quite a dull experience considering its name.
The attraction is the opposite of anything speedy, as guests slowly make their way around a track inside Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland. The ride’s location also makes it rather controversial. Sure, when it first opened, the thought of gas-powered cars small enough to let children drive them was a fun and exciting peek into the future of transportation.
However, in 2024, Tomorrowland Speedway is about the furthest thing from “the future” guests can find.
A version of this ride also exists at the original Disneyland Resort, with both versions ranking low with guests compared to the parks’ other rides and attractions. Rumors of Disney World closing its Tomorrowland Speedway have swirled for decades, though nothing has ever come from Disney officially.
Some fans were hopeful Disney’s announcement of a new TRON-themed roller coaster in 2017 would mean the end of the speedway. However, TRON Lightcycle / Run officially opened in 2023, with the Tomorrowland Speedway remaining intact.
Magic Carpets of Aladdin

Flying over to Adventureland, Magic Kingdom’s Magic Carpets of Aladdin tends to rank pretty low on the list of rides and attractions. While fun for kids, Magic Carpets is nothing more than a rethemed version of Disney’s Dumbo the Flying Elephant, which itself is a clone of the generic spinner-type rides often seen at carnivals and fairs.
Versions of this ride exist worldwide, with a near-identical copy being located at the Disneyland Paris Resort in France.
The ride is often criticized for its location more so than its actual on-ride experience, being plopped right in the middle of Magc Kingdom’s Adventureland. While the connection with some other rides and lands is weak, Magic Carpets of Aladdin sticks out like a sore thumb next to classic Magic Kingdom attractions like the Jungle Cruise and Swiss Family Treehouse.
Astro Orbiter

Astro Orbiter suffers from the same complaints that Flying Carpets of Aladdin receives, as it’s merely a copy-and-paste spinner ride, only this time at the top of Tomorrowland. The ride’s height does add some much-needed excitement and thrill factor, though Astro Orbiter is still a rather dull and unimpressive experience for most of the guests who ride it.
Astro Orbiter is certainly the most fun spinner ride at Disney’s Orlando resort, but this isn’t saying a whole lot.
The main problem with rides and attractions like these is that there are so many immersive experiences to be found at not only Magic Kingdom but the rest of Walt Disney World that it can be hard to justify riding something that can be found at other theme park locations around the country.
It’s important to remember Disney World is a place not just for adult guests but also for visitors of all ages, and rides like the ones mentioned on this list are crucial for any theme park. Capacity is also another crucial factor for any theme park, with Walt Disney World needing an immense number of attractions to satisfy the millions of guests it sees every year.
However, as rides and attractions continue to get more impressive, fun, and immersive, one has to wonder how much longer some of Disney World’s less popular experiences have left. Disney recently announced it would be closing Astro Orbitor in January 2025, and plenty more sweeping changes are expected to hit the parks over the next decade.
