1. Take a swim
All of the Walt Disney World resorts boast wonderfully-themed pools that are perfect for cooling off after a warm day at the parks. Who can resist the adventure at the Dig Site pool complex at Disney’s Coronado Springs, the underwater tunes of The Big Blue Pool at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, swimming next to a volcano at the Lava Pool at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, or enjoy the tropical fun at Disney’s Beach Club? Open all year long, the pool areas come complete with relaxing hot tubs, and many of the resorts also feature smaller quiet pools as well. The pools tend to get crowded in the late afternoon as guests come back from the parks, so it’s a nice change of pace to visit them in the late morning and early afternoon for a more leisurely swim.
2. Poolside fun
While you’re enjoying the pool, check out the lively pool parties that are available poolside. Cast members invite guests to participate in popular dances, Disney trivia games, crafts, and water games.
3. Anyone for a bike ride?
If you’re ready to ready to dry off and find another resort activity, grab some wheels and hit the trails. Many of the Walt Disney World resorts offer bike rentals for adults and children, and surrey bikes are available as well. Pedal over shady paths and by picturesque waterfronts for a great way to enjoy your resort.

4. Terrific tours
Check out some of the fantastic tours offered by several of the Walt Disney World resorts. Take a break from the parks and sign up for the culinary and cultural tours at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge. Another great choice is to take a guided tour of Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Just walking into the resort’s lobby is enough to make my jaw drop!
5. Shop ‘til you drop
If you’re a shopper, cool off from the afternoon heat and stroll through the lovely gift shops in your resort. Not only can you find the standard toiletries and t-shirts, the shops offer tasty snacks and fun souvenirs. Many of the resorts have high-end specialty shops that are great to explore too.
6. Delicious dining
The dining options offered at Walt Disney World resorts are a fantastic alternative to the hustle and bustle of eating in the parks. My family loves coming back after a busy, fun-filled day and enjoying a relaxing meal at a great restaurant at a resort. We’ve found that many times it’s easier to get a reservation at a resort restaurant and still enjoy a top-notch menu.
7. Scenic strolling
After a great meal, take a relaxing walk around your resort. Strolling around the lush landscapes and scenic paths are the perfect way to enjoy how special a Walt Disney World resort is.
8. Movie night
Don’t forget about campfires and movies in the evening. Many of the resorts invite guests to join in the fun of roasting marshmallows over a campfire. Grab a chair by the pool area and take in a Disney movie. The resort activities calendar will tell you the movies playing each day of the week.
9. Fantastic fireworks
Complete a terrific day with a great view of the fireworks. Whether you’re watching from the Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower, lounging on the beach at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, or watching from your hotel room, many of the Walt Disney World resorts have a perfect seat to fireworks from the Magic Kingdom and Epcot.
