Walt Disney World Resort has finally revealed new shading structures after blocking off a portion of Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

A Longstanding Guest Complaint

Since debuted on June 30, 2018, Toy Story Land has been one of the most immersive and family-friendly areas at Walt Disney World Resort. With attractions like Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers, and Toy Story Mania!, the land brings guests straight into Andy’s backyard. However, it hasn’t been without its challenges, especially regarding the Florida heat.

Unlike other themed lands in the park, Toy Story Land lacks indoor attractions and shaded areas, leaving guests exposed to the sun for long periods. One of the biggest concerns has always been the outdoor seating at Woody’s Lunch Box, the land’s only Quick Service restaurant. Without protection from the heat, guests have long struggled to find a comfortable place to enjoy their meals.

Disney Takes Action—But What’s Happening?

Now, after six years of complaints, Walt Disney World Resort appears to be addressing the issue. For months, construction barriers have covered some of the seating areas at Woody’s Lunch Box, temporarily blocking access to sections of the dining space. An overflow seating area appeared near the Toy Story Land entrance to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

According to reports from BlogMickey, construction is almost done. Shading structures have appeared in the K’nex-themed part of Woody’s Lunch Box’s seating area, protecting some guests from the shade. The overflow seating near the entrance to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has also been removed as Disney works on updates.

Scaffolding remains near the new shading structures. The presence of electrical work suggests the addition of fans or lighting, but neither has been confirmed.

What Does This Mean for Toy Story Land?

While this construction focuses on Woody’s Lunch Box, it raises questions about whether Disney will make additional improvements to Toy Story Land as a whole. Many areas in the land still lack shade, and guests continue to voice concerns about limited relief from the sun.

For now, Woody’s Lunch Box remains open but with reduced seating as construction crews work behind the barriers. Only time will tell whether this marks a slight adjustment or a larger reimagining of the land.
