TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D has closed down at one Universal Studios theme park this week.

Like the majority of rides at Universal theme parks, TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D throws guests straight into the chaos of a beloved franchise. In this case, it’s the middle of an all-out war between Autobots and Decepticons.

What Is Transformers: The Ride-3D?

As of right now, the attraction can be found at Universal Studios Singapore, Hollywood, Orlando, and Beijing (where it’s known as Transformers: Battle for the AllSpark). Each version of the ride is pretty much the same, with riders boarding an Autobot tasked with protecting the AllSpark while dodging explosions, leaping across rooftops, and facing off against Megatron in a heart-pounding, full-throttle battle.

The attraction first opened at Universal Studios Singapore in 2011 before making its way to Hollywood in 2012, Orlando in 2013, and Beijing in 2021. Using the same ride system as The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man, it combines massive projection screens with moving ride vehicles to create the illusion of intense speed, free-fall drops, and high-impact collisions.

Optimus Prime and Bumblebee make dramatic appearances to assist guests in their escape, with fire bursts, simulated crashes, and force feedback making every moment feel larger than life.

Despite newer attractions arriving at Universal parks, TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D remains a fan favorite, consistently drawing long wait times, especially in Orlando and Hollywood. The ride’s explosive, cinematic action appeals to both longtime Transformers fans and casual thrill-seekers, delivering a blockbuster-style experience that feels straight out of a Michael Bay movie.

Universal Studios Hollywood Closes Ride (For Now)

Those hoping to experience the attraction in Southern California are out of luck for the next few weeks.

TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D is currently listed as closed on the Universal Studios Hollywood website. While there’s no planned reopening date just yet, Inside Universal reports that it’s expected to stay closed until at least June.

Frustrating though it may be, maintenance is part of the package at any theme park. TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D isn’t the only attraction out of action at Universal Studios Hollywood right now. Super Silly Fun Land Wet Zone is also closed for refurbishment and is slated to reopen at some point this month.

There’s been talk among fans lately about the future of TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D. Some have theorized that the ride could receive a transformation to align with newer Transformers movies, instead of the Michael Bay era of the franchise. However, considering its continued popularity at the park, others are much more optimistic about its longevity. As one Reddit user put it, “It seems to be one of the most popular rides at Universal’s parks. I’d be very surprised if they replace it in the near future.”

Even during TRANSFORMERS: The Ride-3D’s closure, there are plenty of attractions to enjoy at Universal Studios Hollywood. SUPER NINTENDO WORLD immerses guests in the world of Nintendo video games, with Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge its primary attraction. Meanwhile, Jurassic World: The Ride brings riders up close and personal (perhaps too close) with some of their favorite dinosaurs, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter recreates the magical sites seen in JK Rowling’s Harry Potter franchise.

Most prominently, the park features the world-famous Studio Tour, taking guests on a tour through a working studio where they can see the sets of their favorite films and potentially even catch a glimpse of the Hollywood elite.
