Some travelers are reconsidering their upcoming Walt Disney World Resort vacations after President Donald Trump was re-elected earlier this month.
These worries follow similar concerns from other minorities after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis enacted anti-transgender and anti-immigrant legislation in Florida.
Several non-profit organizations, including the NAACP, have issued travel warnings for Florida, encouraging people of color, people with accents, international travelers, and LGBTQIA+ travelers to take extra precautions when visiting the Sunshine State.
Walt Disney World Resort guests recently discussed their 2025 Central Florida vacations on Reddit. Some feared a hostile environment for LGBTQIA+ or non-white guests in a state that overwhelmingly voted for President Donald Trump.
u/SillyMrSpooks asked fellow Disney Parks fans if a gay couple should reconsider visiting Magic Kingdom Park, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and Disney Springs:
My husband and I (both men) are nervous about visiting in Easter after Trump winning. I feel like Orlando is like a different world though. We’re staying onsite for the two weeks anyway so I imagine it will be fine, right?
“I’ve been assaulted for my sexuality before,” the Disney Parks fan continued. “Homophobia is something [we] experience regularly. It isn’t dramatic to be curious and consider safety.”
Most Disney Parks fans reassured the guests that Walt Disney World Resort is situated within a welcoming part of Florida–most Disney cast members are minorities.
“Be careful around the airport but don’t be afraid to flag down security if you need it,” u/Artsy_Fartsy_Fox recommended.
“I think you should be fine in the parks, as I’ve definitely seen trans/NB adults and children, as well as gay couples in the parks living their best lives. If you feel harassed, again, alert security. I can’t say there won’t be any instigation as bigots are everywhere, but you two have just as much right to be there as anyone else.”
“Orlando is fine, the rest of Florida is the problem,” u/Illustrious-Tower849 agreed.
Fears are heightened for people who can get pregnant, especially after the ballot measure to protect abortion failed in Florida. Despite winning the popular vote, the constitutional amendment required a 60% lead to take effect. Abortion is illegal after six weeks of pregnancy, posing health risks to pregnant individuals who need life-saving care.
