Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park to Close for Refurbishment

Refurbishments are a necessary part of maintaining all of the magic that Guests enjoy at the Walt Disney World Resort, and after going slightly off schedule due to the pandemic, it seems Disney’s water parks are moving back to their traditional refurbishment routines.

In a typical refurbishment calendar, Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon water parks take turns closing during the off-season to complete routine maintenance ahead of spring and summer crowds. With Blizzard Beach now set to reopen soon, Disney has announced that Typhoon Lagoon will be closing for its annual refurbishment.

With Blizzard Beach set to reopen (with new Frozen-inspired additions) on November 13, 2022, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon will close for its next refurbishment at the end of the day on November 12.

Disney confirmed the update to the water parks’ refurbishment schedule on its official website, also noting that while reservations are required to visit a Disney theme park, they are not required to spend the day at one of the Resort’s water parks.

As of right now, Typhoon Lagoon’s upcoming closure appears to be a standard refurbishment to work on areas that need maintenance around the Park. It is always possible, however, that we will see something new when the Park does reopen (as was just the case with Blizzard Beach) so we will be sure to update our readers of any developments.

Given the addition of Frozen to Blizzard Beach, it would not be too surprising to see some Disney IP make its way into Typhoon Lagoon when the Park reopens. Moana (2016) in particular is one film that fans immediately thought of on social media when the Frozen additions were announced for Blizzard Beach (though Moana projects are already underway at Walt Disney World with Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana at EPCOT and the potential for a Moana re-theme of DinoLand, U.S.A. in Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

For now, we always recommend checking the refurbishment calendar on Disney’s official website or reviewing the My Disney Experience app ahead of your trip for updates on which attractions (or water parks) might be closed during your next trip.
