Epic Universe Reverses Course on Pizza Policy After Fan Frustration

Universal’s newest theme park has barely been officially open for a month, but it’s already learned a hard truth about modern theme park audiences: don’t mess with the food.

Epic Universe, which debuted in May 2025, is Universal Orlando’s most ambitious project to date. Divided into five highly immersive lands—including Celestial Park, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic, and SUPER NINTENDO WORLD—the park has been widely praised for its scale, design, and entertainment value.

Fans have raved about its atmospheric rides and theatrical character encounters, with the Ministry of Magic’s grandiose queue earning particular attention. Even early detractors have acknowledged the creative highs throughout the park.

But as the crowds rolled in, so did the complaints. Guests pointed to a lack of shaded walkways, shorter-than-expected operating hours, and—perhaps most bizarrely—a sudden restriction on taking leftover pizza out of a restaurant.

Pizza Moon Sparks Unexpected Backlash

Pizza Moon, the retro-styled pizzeria located in the park’s Celestial Park area, initially offered guests branded takeout boxes for leftovers. That changed earlier this month, when guests began reporting that boxes were no longer being offered.

The policy shift—never formally announced—quickly became a flashpoint online. Some visitors speculated it was a cost-cutting measure, others blamed operational oversight, but nearly all agreed: the change was inconvenient and wasteful.

In a climate where dining costs are high and parkgoers often spend entire days on-site, being told you can’t take your leftovers struck many as unreasonable.

Policy Quietly Reinstated

Universal appears to have reversed course.

As of this week, guests at Pizza Moon are once again being offered the original takeout boxes—featuring a yellow crescent moon with a pizza slice for an eye—so long as they’ve eaten at least one slice from their pie. The box’s stylized artwork pays tribute to Le Voyage dans la Lune, the 1902 silent film that inspired the restaurant’s theming.

Pizza Moon to-go boxes, manufactured prior to the park opening, are a very functional way to transport your pizza throughout your celestial travels!

Photos of the boxes have begun circulating online again, with guests welcoming the change as a smart and sensible fix. The update hasn’t been officially publicized, but its return has not gone unnoticed among parkgoers and fan blogs.

It’s a small win, but one that reflects a bigger pattern: Epic Universe is still finding its footing. As Universal continues to refine park operations based on guest behavior, more adjustments are likely on the horizon. For now, at least, visitors can take comfort in knowing their leftover slices are safe—and that, sometimes, even a billion-dollar theme park listens to feedback.
