Disney Parks are always evolving and changing, which sometimes means updating current attractions to create even more immersive experiences for Guests.
Some of the most immersive attractions at the Walt Disney World Resort can be found at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. At Disney’s third Orlando area theme park, Guests can find themselves in the middle of a Mickey Mouse cartoon on Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, in the Toy Story films as they take a trip through Toy Story Land, aka Andy’s backyard, and of course, to “a galaxy far, far away” at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is not the only location at Disney’s Hollywood Studios where Guests can become immersed in the Star Wars universe. In Animation Courtyard, Guests will find Star Wars Launch Bay, which features character meet and greets with BB-8, Darth Vader, and Chewbacca, along with a rotation of films and exhibits with props and artifacts from several different Star Wars stories.
The Park’s original Star Wars attraction, however, is Star Tours, located at the intersection of Commissary Lane and Grand Avenue. Now known as Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, this attraction motion simulator attraction has been updated several times since its original 1989 opening.

During the Walt Disney Imagineering Panel at this year’s Star Wars Celebration, which was held on Sunday, April 9, 2023, Disney confirmed that updates are in the works for Star Tours at each of the Disney Parks the attractions is located at (Disneyland in Anaheim, California, Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida, and Disneyland Paris in France.
Scott Trowbridge, Portfolio Creative Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, said:
Since it debuted at Disneyland in 1987 as the first Star Wars attraction in a Disney park, Star Tours has traveled to new places as this galaxy of stories expanded. We’re looking forward to continuing that tradition next year with all new adventures … but I can’t reveal just where we’re going yet – or those we may meet along the way…

Since its revamp into a 3D attraction (and its addition of C-3PO as the “pilot”), Star Tours has historically added new locales to the attraction every couple of years with several updates coming to the attraction with the release of the last film trilogy. The attraction is unique in that there are multiple experiences Guests can have with each ride featuring different locations and characters from the Star Wars universe.
As such, Star Tours is one attraction that Guests can ride over and over while still having an entirely new experience. And while fans are excited to see more updates come to Star Tours, some have already been quick to point out that Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, could use similar modifications, especially as it is one of the major attractions in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
The updates will not debut on Star Tours all three Disney Parks until 2024, but we will continue to share new information as it becomes available here on Disney Tips.
