After Three Year Break, Walt Disney World Dramatically Hikes Up Ticket Prices

The magic is back, the parking trams are finally running, and parades are returning next month.

It’s been a whirlwind of a couple of years for the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, with pandemic closures, a delayed TRON Lightcycle ride, and the celebration of its 50th anniversary.

And now, Disney World has increased its ticket prices.

It’s never a shock when Disneyland Resort or Walt Disney World increases their ticket prices. In fact, it’s actually surprising that we’ve seen such a long period without a price raise.

Walt Disney World last saw a major adjustment to its ticket pricing back in March 2019, a year before the pandemic closed the Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme parks.

The price increases today, February 16, may divide Guests who are experiencing the Parks with several popular attractions still closed since Walt Disney World reopened after its COVID-19 closure.

Fantasmic! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Walt Disney World Railroad at Magic Kingdom, and many of the character meet and greets we all know and love are still missing from the theme parks, so for many, these ticket price increases will seem unjustified.

Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Josh D’Amaro revealed in November 2021 that Fantasmic! will be returning to both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland in Anaheim in 2022. On February 1, images were revealed of Disney’s Hollywood Studios Fantasmic! moat looking refilled, leaving us expecting a potential Spring reopening of the beloved show.

Furthermore, Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lanes, the new paid-for FastPass replacement service, launched back in October 2021 to mixed reviews. The additional cost of riding attractions, plus these new ticket prices, is only adding to Guest complaints about the ever-changing Disney Park experience.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek has often been blamed by Disney fans for price increases and a change in the Disney theme park experience at Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. In January, the divisive CEO outlined his plans for 2022 in a memo sent to Disney employees, with a focus on creativity and technology.

Many Disney fans debate Chapek’s budget cuts and layoffs, as well as his attention moving to Disney+ and away from the quality of the Disney Parks. Chapek revealed in an interview last year that he dislikes this “cost-cutter” reputation he has gained as Disney CEO.

With the Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products division reportedly making more than $7.2 billion in revenue in the first quarter ending January 1, 2022, many Guests might wonder why Walt Disney World even needs to increase pricing. Orlando Sentinel shared that this revenue is more than double the nearly $3.6 billion made in the first quarter of 2021.

But despite these groans and complaints, people are still heading to the Parks in their masses – and we’re sure they still will even after these price increases.

Guests can visit the official website for the Walt Disney World Resort for more information on planning and ticket prices.

We are certain this won’t be the last price increase to come to the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida or the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California.
