Update: Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Reopened on January 2!

Many Guests add either the Park Hopper Plus Option or the Water Park and Sports Option to their tickets when planning a Walt Disney World vacation. Spending a day at a Water Park is a great way to sleep in a bit later, then have a fun day of Disney magic.

So far this year, there have been several days when Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park didn’t open because of cool temperatures. There will most likely be more. What do you do if you purchased one of these addons, but the Water Park is closed?

You are not going to get a refund. As stated on the Walt Disney World website:

All tickets and options are nontransferable and nonrefundable and exclude activities/events separately priced. Parks, attractions and other offerings are subject to availability, closures and change or cancellation without notice or liability. Water parks subject to rehabilitation, seasonal and weather closures.

That doesn’t mean you’ve wasted your money if you added one of these two options. There are other things that you can use your ticket for. Remember, you don’t have to use your ticket for a Water Park if they open, these are always an option with the addons.

With either addon you can play a round of miniature golf. Walt Disney World has two themed courses. Fantasia Gardens and Fairways Miniature Golf is based on the classic movie ‘Fantasia’. Winter Summerland Miniature Golf was designed by Santa, so that he and the elves can enjoy some time off.

There are two courses at both Fantasia Gardens and Winter Summerland, but your ticket will allow you only one round. You must play before 4:00.

If you’d prefer your golf a bit larger, both ticket options include Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course. The Water Parks and Sports Option also includes FootGolf at Disney’s Oak Trail. Reservations are highly recommended for Oak Trail, call 407-WDW-GOLF (407-939-4653) for more information.

It’s never a bad idea to check the local forecast before heading out. If the high temperature for the day will be around 70 degrees or lower, there’s a good chance that Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park will not open. Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon is not open at this time.

About Paula K

I grew up in Western Massachusetts. When I was nine my family went to Disneyland and I was hooked. I grew up, attended New England College in Henniker, NH and eventually moved to Virginia. I worked as a disc jockey, married and became a full time mom when our daughter was born. Fast forward several years. In 2010 we moved to Central Florida and my Disney obsession grew. I now work as a freelance writer and spend my spare time in the parks. Under the name Paula Brown I penned the novels Dream Wanderers and The Coffee Cruiser. I also am a co-author of Dining at Walt Disney World: The Definitive Guide. I'm obsessed with Star Wars, so this is a good time to live in Central Florida. I've been a vegetarian for well over a decade, a choice that my daughter eventually made as well. While my husband still hasn't joined us fully he has given up most meats except for seafood. I was relieved to find that vegetarian dining is not difficult at Walt Disney World.
