Mexico Attraction To Close at Disney World’s EPCOT Next Week

EPCOT guests have just days left to shop at a beloved handcrafted goods stand inside the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion, as Walt Disney World Resort prepares to shutter the spot for good.

Liquidation Sale Signals the End

On Tuesday, WDWNT reported that the Oaxacan wood-carving stand tucked inside the Plaza de los Amigos, part of the pyramid within the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion at EPCOT, has begun selling off its inventory ahead of its closing. Photos posted by the outlet show signs marking the entire shop as 50% off.

The stand has been a standout among the EPCOT World Showcase offerings for its handmade wooden statues, each carved from wood harvested in the Oaxacan Valley of southern Mexico using traditional pocketknife and machete techniques, then sanded and hand-painted by the artists.

A Closing Date Is Set

According to a Disney cast member who spoke with WDWNT, the shop is expected to close its doors on Monday, August 31, 2026 — just days from now. The rest of the pyramid’s shops, along with the Gran Fiesta Tour Starring the Three Caballeros and the San Angel Inn Restaurante Table-Service dining location, are expected to remain open and unaffected by the closure.

What Replaces It Remains a Mystery

Walt Disney World Resort hasn’t announced any plans to replace the Oaxacan wood carving stand. Since the shop takes up only a small footprint — a handful of tables near the pyramid’s entrance and exit — it’s possible the area could simply be left open to give guests more room to move through that section of the Mexico World Showcase Pavilion. Disney also hasn’t explained what prompted the decision to close the stand.
