In terms of souvenirs, pressed pennies are among the easiest to find. In fact, they’re practically everywhere. You can easily find pressed penny machines in shops, restaurants, resort lobbies, and outside attractions.

9) They’re fun to collect
Because pressed pennies can easily be found all over the Walt Disney World Resort, they can be really fun to collect. You never know which designs you’ll come across, or where the machines will pop up, so it’s a fun way to start a little collection of Disney items during your vacation. You can even purchase little books to house your collection that feature fun Disney designs on the cover and pressed penny shaped plastic sleeves on the interior.
8) You’re not limited to Disney pennies
Lots of attractions and tourist destinations besides Walt Disney World will also have pressed penny machines. This means that your pressed pennies do not need to be a Disney-exclusive collection. In addition to collecting all sorts of different things from the Disney parks and resorts, and can be fun to be able to collect one little item like this from all of your travels.
7) Kids love them
If you have kids, pressed pennies can be fun, interactive souvenirs for them. If you’ve ever seen kids pick out their pressed pennies, then you know it’s a very interactive process, especially when using a machine with a hand crank so the kids can actually make their own pressed pennies. Before they even get to the machine, kids often carefully pick out which penny they want to use. For instance, when I worked in Dinoland USA, a little boy once told me that he usually uses shiny pennies, but he specifically wanted an older looking, and more worn out penny for the dinosaur pressed penny designs.
6) Collecting them can be a fun game
During my time on the Disney College Program, I was able to talk to a few guests who made pressed penny collecting into a scavenger hunt. One family made a list of possible design themes, like princesses, and resorts, for instance, and gave each theme a point value. They assigned themselves to two teams, and at the end of their trip they added up the points, and the winning team was treated to dinner by the losing team.
5) They’re great for scrapbooks
As an avid scrapbooker, I can tell you that scrapbooking is actually a fairly expensive hobby. Making a really nice scrapbook requires a lot of time, effort, and unfortunately money. One easy way to offset the cost of a scrapbook and add to the design is to decorate some of the pages with pressed pennies. There are so many different designs on the pennies, that they can really add to how the individual scrapbook pages will look in the finished product.

The pressed penny designs actually change fairly often, which is great for guests because it means that you won’t be collecting the same designs over and over with each trip to the parks. Pressed pennies will often change as new movies gain popularity and as areas of the resort are updated or changed.

This may be a little tricky to do if you are not a jeweler (or you don’t happen to date one like I do) but pressed pennies can be made into some really unique and nice looking jewelry. With some effort and desire to learn, you can probably make something up with items and tools from your local craft store. But if you’re not really into DIY projects, your jeweler or a specialized Etsy seller should be able to help you out.

At $.51, pressed pennies are the cheapest souvenirs you’ll ever be able to find on a Walt Disney World vacation. This makes them perfect for kids who want to buy everything they see, when mom and dad would really rather they did not buy everything in sight. Pressed pennies are great to have for little souvenirs to remember their trips by, without spending lots of time or money going through the shops.

Like most Disney collections guests tend to have, it’s very addicting and not something you’ll stop collecting anytime soon. But that’s okay, because they are really fun to collect! Collecting pressed pennies is a really easy way to take a little piece of the parks home with you. They’re great, inexpensive souvenirs, and the possibilities are endless for what you can make or do with them once you return home.
