Magic Bands have been a fantastic addition to the Walt Disney World family of technology. The Magic Band is so much more than just a “bracelet” with Mickey on it that you wear around the park. It is a phenomenal keepsake that can also be fashionable and make your vacation extremely convenient. Here are 5 reasons why we totally love Magic Bands:

5. They are comfortable to wear and easy to carry around.
I love the Magic Bands so much more than I liked carrying around the Key to the World card. A card is so much easier to lose or accidentally drop, while the Magic Band always stays safely secured on your wrist. This makes it easier and more convenient to use when you need it for charging, park admission, etc. With the new Magic Band 2, guests can even carry around the heart of the Magic Band in a keychain, necklace and other forms so that it isn’t just on their wrist for guests who don’t want to wear a band. We love comfort and convenience!
4. You get them free with Disney World resort reservations and vacation packages.
If you are staying at a Walt Disney World resort, then everyone in your party will get a free Magic Band. If you have multiple bands and want to reuse those, you can decline them and use your already linked bands. You don’t have to do this of course, since many guests like to have options with band colors and designs. The free bands you get will come in the color that you select and you can add your name to the underside of the band. All of these selections are made in My Disney Experience prior to your vacation, and then they are shipped to your house so that you have them you arrive at the airport. All guests, even babies, get a band so they make a great keepsake, too!
3. You can customize them any way that you like.
It amazes me at how creative guests can be when it comes to decorating their Magic Bands. When you select your band colors in My Disney Experience that isn’t where the customizations have to end. Some guests paint them, add jewels, use vinyl cutouts, etc. The sky is really the limit. You can customize them any way you like to be your favorite colors, character(s), attractions, sports teams, etc. If you don’t want to wear it as a band, you can even customize how you carry it, too. You can purchase various holders that turn the Magic Band to a keychain, necklace, etc. so that you can carry it in whatever way is the most comfortable for you.

2. They are a link to everything linked in My Disney Experience.
This is probably my favorite thing about Magic Bands! The Magic Bands are seriously your link to just about every single thing at Walt Disney World from the moment that you arrive at the airport. When you first get to the airport you will use the Magic Bands to board your Magical Express shuttle to the resort. Once you arrive on property the Magic Bands then serve as the room key, access to Disney Dining plan entitlements, park admission, charging purchases to your resort and PhotoPass photos while you are in the park. You can go into the park and carry no cards with you (other than maybe a driver’s license if you plan to purchase alcohol) so that you can travel light. This is a huge perk of how the Magic Bands work to enhance your vacation.

Guests that aren’t staying at a Walt Disney World resort can also have Magic Bands, as well as any guests that want a more customized band that they didn’t do themselves. There are Magic Bands available for purchase at the parks. These Magic Bands selections are greater than what you find with the free Magic Bands. There are locations where you can completely customize and make your Magic Band. There are also limited edition and other character bands that are for special occasions and sometimes do special actions when you scan the band. You will also find special charms, gems and more that are available for purchase to help jazz up your existing Magic Band if you want to dress that one up a bit. Just have fun with it!
