5 Reasons We Love Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom

The Magic Kingdom is the first theme park that everyone thinks of when they think of Walt Disney World.  It is the park that is often mistakenly called, Disney World, for those that don’t know what all Disney World consists of.  Of course there are WAY more than 5 reasons why we love Magic Kingdom, but we did our best to narrow it down to the top 5 for you:

5. The Disney nostalgia

As soon as you enter the gates of the Magic Kingdom, you instantly feel the magic of Disney.  You are looking straight ahead to the castle, there are characters and entertainment bustling on Main Street USA, cast members with balloons are walking the streets, it looks like a perfect old town street, plus all of the smiling faces.  What could be better than all of this?  Not only that, many of the attractions and things that you see in the theme park are nods to Walt Disney himself and attractions that he actually worked on and created.  I instantly tear up the moment I enter the Magic Kingdom for the first time during a vacation, and they are definitely tears of joy.  It’s the type of joy and history that only Disney can provide and you can’t replicate it.

4. All of the character interactions

The Magic Kingdom is full of characters!  There are characters in every single land in the theme park, including Main Street USA.  You will see characters that come out randomly in different locations, as well as characters that have permanent locations for their meet and greets.  Not only that, but you will see the amazing “streetmosphere” that come out to perform and interact with guests.  You will see the trolley show, the parades, the Dapper Dans, the Mayor and other characters… the list goes on.  It makes the experience completely immersive and you can’t help but get excited talking and interacting with them all.  It really is fun for all ages.

3. The food and snacks

There is nothing like Disney food, especially at the Magic Kingdom.  There are amazing iconic treats that you will find at locations like Casey’s Corner or Sleepy Hollow.  You can also find notorious treats like the Dole Whip or a Mickey Premium Bar.  You also can’t forget about the table service locations that are constantly booked up for reservations.  You have Be Our Guest, one of the most popular restaurants in all of Walt Disney World where you get to dine inside of the Beast’s castle.  You also have Cinderella Castle, which probably is among the most popular restaurant for proposals and celebrations.  Then you have other amazing restaurants like Crystal Palace where you can dine with Winnie the Pooh and friends or Liberty Tree Tavern where you transport yourself back to the 1800’s.  The Disney food and locations are definitely a huge part of the Disney experience!

2. The amazing attractions

You can’t forget about all of the attractions and things to do at the park.  The Haunted Mansion is definitely my personal favorite.  It never seems to get old to me, no matter how many times I ride it.  The park has a great mix of thrill rides and slower paced rides that are great for all ages.  We have always felt that we had a ton of things to do and could never get everything done in a day, especially with my young kids with us.  There are so many amazing things to experience.  Be sure to check the Times Guide for all of the shows and other appearances throughout the park that you might miss if you don’t know about them.  There are more things to do than just the rides you wait in line for.

1. Happily Ever After Fireworks

I think this one almost goes without saying.  These are some of the most impressive fireworks that you will ever see.  The music tugs at your heart strings and leaves you with the warm and fuzzy feelings, while the fireworks and projections are going off around you.  There are images projected onto the castle that add a whole new level to the experience.  There really isn’t a bad place to view the fireworks.  You will want to be on Main Street USA somewhere if you care about viewing them head on.  You can also view them from other lands around the park or even outside the park and still get to hear the music and a great effect.  One of our favorite spots is by the water in Frontierland. You see the reflection of the show over the water, and it’s gorgeous.  There are also less crowds back there and you can jump right on attractions when they are over, and right up until the show starts rather than holding down a spot somewhere.

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
