The “Mickey Parties” at Disney World are among my absolute favorite events. I am the type of person that will pay extra to go to the parties multiple times if I can, even though I have an annual pass and can go to the parks as much as I want (when I am able). The two usual parties that are offered each year are Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and then Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. For each party the Magic Kingdom is taken over for the respective holiday. Everything is perfectly planned and themed for the event. Guests really get into it and dress in some pretty elaborate, creative costumes for the Halloween party. They also tend to wear their Santa hats and other festive clothing to get in the holiday spirit for the Christmas party. The parties are held on select nights and tickets must be purchased separately. They are not included in your admission for that day at the Magic Kingdom, so you will want to confirm that you have actually purchased a party ticket and plan your days and other ticket purchases accordingly. These are events that you really don’t want to miss and are completely unbelievable. Here are 7 things that we Walt Disney World Insiders love the most about special “Mickey Parties” and why you should give them a try:
7. The costumes (for characters and cast).
If you frequent Disney a lot, or interact with the amazing cast members regularly, you will notice that at the special event parties, their costumes may change. The cast members throughout Magic Kingdom (except in areas where their costume is part of the theme for the attraction) receive festive costumes to match the event and add to the show. You will also notice that our beloved characters spend extra time getting ready so that they can dress for the event. You get the opportunity to visit with your favorite characters and see them in a different outfit than you may be used to seeing them in. This is a big treat for us Insiders!
6. Exclusive merchandise.
These events typically offer exclusive merchandise that is only put out at the event. You must have a party ticket in order to have access to purchase these goodies, so if you are a Disney merchandise fiend, you definitely don’t want to miss these. The items are typically things like magic bands, shirt, popcorn buckets, pins, souvenir cups, etc. The magic bands have also done unique things in the past when you use them at FastPass+ locations, so they can be pretty cool!
5. Special character appearances.
There are some characters that typically only come out for special party events. Jack and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas are a huge hit at the Halloween party, along with many tough to find villains. You will also find rare encounters like all of the characters from Monster’s Inc (yes, even Boo!) and the Incredibles (including Frozone) at the dance parties. There are also typically very long waits to see all of the Seven Dwarfs, who usually only come out for special occasions to do meet and greets with their fans. These interactions are amazing and definitely a big draw for Disney Insiders!
4. One-of-a-kind treats.
Not only do the parties offer exclusive merchandise options, but there are exclusive treats for sale that you can only get at the party. There are usually a few treat options that are perfectly themed to the event and super tasty. We always like to sample at least one of these amazing treats at each party since they tend to change a little year after year. If you are a Disney foodie, be sure to check the map for where you can get your hands on these! You also get various treats that are included in the party ticket. At the Halloween party you have various trick-or-treat locations where cast members give you handfuls of candy (and the good stuff, too) each time you go through the line. Disney does supply treat bags, but we always make sure to bring some of our own to carry the haul of candy back out of the park. At the Christmas party, they are cookies/hot cocoa stations all over the park where you can get your fill of as many cookies and cocoa as you want during the party. We always make sure to save room for treats!
3. Parades, shows and fireworks.
The parades and fireworks that are presented at the parties are themed for the party and exclusive for party-goers. These parades and firework presentations are some of the best that Disney has to offer, and present characters and music that you may not get to see very often. The fireworks are a completely different show for each party with different music and hosts. It’s always fun to see something different than you can see on any other day in the parks. The shows are unbelievable. There is always a special stage show on Cinderella Castle stage for the party and other special smaller events around the park. We always find these to be some of the most fun productions that Disney does, which may partly be because they are a bit more exclusive in nature than a normal day in the parks.
2. Shorter lines.
This is a big draw for many people. On party nights, Disney only sells a select number of tickets. I have been to events that weren’t sold out and events where the tickets sold out, and in either experience, the lines were still much shorter than on a typical day in the Magic Kingdom. We hardly had to wait for most of the attractions (Seven Dwarfs Mine Train seems to always be an exception to that) and get to experience a lot of different things during the party time. Most of the attractions are open (the specific list can be found on the event map), but FastPass+ is not available during the party. The good news is that you likely won’t need it! There is so much going on and so many shows and events that the people are pretty well spread throughout the event.
1. Extra magic and fun.
There is something extra magical about celebrating holidays and special events at the Magic Kingdom. Especially when you add in all of the extras like the pumpkins and special lighting on Main Street during the Halloween party and the snow effect during the Christmas party. It just takes everything to a whole new level and lets you experience the park in a different way that is very special. There are numerous little touches and added magic throughout the park, so you be sure to study the event map/guide so you don’t miss anything that interests you. The Cadaver Dans appear in Frontierland during the Halloween party singing their take on Halloween/fall songs and then make their appearance again as the Dapper Dans during the Christmas party singing holiday favorites in their holiday best. If you play Sorcerer’s of the Magic Kingdom there is a special card that is exclusive to each party event that you have to attend the party to get, so this is huge for Disney Insiders. There are so many great extras and magic at the events that Disney fans really appreciate!
