7 Things Walt Disney World Insiders Love About Character Dining

Character dining is one of my absolute favorite dining experiences, especially with my two young boys. It is a great way to see the characters and enjoy a delicious meal. They are extremely popular, so you will want to reserve them as early as possible! Here are 7 things that Walt Disney World Insiders love about character dining:

7. Delicious food

The meals at most of the character dining experiences are among the best all you care to enjoy meals you will ever have. The offerings are unique and of the highest quality. Each one has a different theme and dishes that are inspired by the theme. The chefs are among the best you will find and take great pride in creating delicious and unique dishes. The buffets also have several different options in order to please all kinds of taste buds and dietary needs. Plus, you can likely skip another meal during the day after filling up on the amazing offerings at your character meal!

6. No waiting in line

When you enjoy a character dining meal, you don’t have to wait in line to meet the characters. You can spend at least 20+ minutes per character waiting in line in the parks, and with a character dining experience they all come to your table while you get to enjoy a meal. You get to make the most of your time and have an amazing experience with your family. It is a big win-win!

5. Kids under 3 are free

This is a huge bonus for those on a budget. You won’t have to pay for the kiddos under 3, and they can still get their own plates from the buffet, eat as much as they want and get whatever kids’ beverage that they want during the meal. This makes it much easier than sharing plates at other restaurants, and helps keep the costs lower for those little ones!

4. Included on Disney Dining Plans and Tables in Wonderland

Good news for those of you on the Disney Dining plan, the character meals are covered. Most of them are only 1 entitlement. If you are a Tables in Wonderland member, the character dining experiences are also part of that program. That gets you 20% off of the experience (excluding days that are blocked out), which is a huge savings! Be sure to take advantage of any of these options to help keep your budget in check.

3. Singing and dancing

The characters come to your table and interact with your family, but they also have different events at each character dining experience where you may get to sing, dance with the characters, participate in a parade around the restaurant, turn your napkin into a helicopter and many other fun events that make for great photos, video and most importantly magical memories for everyone!

2. Family photos in the amazing setting

Many of these dining locations also take pictures before you are seated. They take a picture of your family before you are seated and then you are able to buy the photo package and/or have it added to your Memory Maker to print later. This is a great keepsake from the meal to remember the theme and the restaurant for years to come.

1. Personal character encounters

So this really is the best part, right? You get a personal, less rushed feeling interaction with the beloved characters in a very comfortable setting. You get to be inside, in the air conditioning, taking pictures, getting autographs and getting personal attention from these loveable favorites. The characters vary at each location, so check out who usually dines for each meal so that you can pick locations based on your favorites if you wish!

About Christy Caby

I am a diehard Disney fanatic! I fell in love with all things Disney from an early age and that only increased once I first visited Walt Disney World! It led me to complete a yearlong Disney College Program working at merchandise locations within Disney’s Hollywood Studios (Disney-MGM Studios at that time) and I worked for Disney Parks & Resorts Technology in Project/Program Management. Now I get to write about Disney and help others plan their magical vacations! Disney holds a special place in the hearts of my entire family as my husband proposed there, we honeymooned there, took trips while pregnant with each of my boys and have visited with them many, many times from 8 weeks old through now. One of my favorite memories from each trip is always the look on my kids’ faces the first time they see the castle. I’d love to help you plan your magical vacation!
