A vacation at Walt Disney World can be one of the most exciting trips you’ll ever take. From roller coasters and magical parades to fine dining experiences and dozens of resorts there are endless ways to spend your time exploring and having a great time. In order to try and see as much as they can, guests find themselves walking a lot in the hot Florida sun and perhaps getting up earlier and staying up later than they normally would at home. Guests might not even realize how tiring a Disney vacation can be if they don’t take some time every day to relax and take it easy. Here are seven simple ways to slow it down on any given day in WDW to recoup and make a vacation all around more enjoyable!

7. Pool Relaxing –

If guests are staying on property at any of the numerous Disney resorts, they’ll be sure to find a relaxing and unique pool atmosphere to take it easy in. The Lava Pool at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort offers guests a tropical oasis complete with views of Seven Seas Lagoon and the Magic Kingdom. The Big Blue Pool allows guests the opportunity to splash around with the characters from Finding Nemo while rocking out with underwater speakers. No matter what mood guests are in, resort pools offer the chance to cool off, relax, and take a break from the craziness of the parks.

6. Resort Tours –

With dozens of resort options to choose from, it can be hard for guests to pick their “home resort” while visiting Walt Disney World. So what better way to be able to take it easy for a few hours than to tour other resorts? To take a quick break from the Magic Kingdom, hop on the monorail and explore Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Village, and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. Feel like a break from Epcot or Disney’s Hollywood Studios? Ride a small boat over to Disney’s Boardwalk and take in the sights and excitement of turn of the century Atlantic City. For a relaxing break from Disney’s Animal Kingdom, hop the bus over to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge and take in the intricate details and sweeping savanna views. With so many great resorts to explore and enjoy, guests will have trouble deciding which to pick!

5. See Shows –

While most people think of attractions such as Space Mountain and Spaceship Earth when thinking of Walt Disney World, it might come as a surprise that there are some amazing stage productions which offer great opportunities to take it easy for a little while. An additional perk of seeing live shows in the parks is that they often seat hundreds of guests at a time, so they provide a place to sit down and shade or air conditioning to relax in. In the Magic Kingdom check out Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress or Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room. In Epcot, relax to the Disney & Pixar Short Film Festival. In Disney’s Hollywood Studios stop by The Voyage of the Little Mermaid or Beauty and the Beast-Live on Stage. In Disney’s Animal Kingdom, guests can’t go wrong with The Festival of the Lion King or Finding Nemo the Musical.

4. Dining Experiences –

Walt Disney World is home to countless dining experiences ranging from sandwiches and fries to a multi course signature dining extravaganza. A great way to take some time on a vacation to relax is to make dining reservations and sit down and enjoy a meal each day. With many options to choose from, Disney dining offers something to please even the pickiest of eaters and offers the chance to sit down, enjoy some food, and relax before heading back out to the parks. For guests looking to indulge in plenty of Disney dining, be sure to check out the various options of the Disney Dining Plan.

3. Visit the Spa –

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa is home to Senses, a luxurious and relaxing location where guests can spend some time pampering themselves. Offering everything from massages and facials to a fitness center, Senses is one of the best places for guests to relax and take it east while on a Disney vacation. For those looking for the ultimate relaxing splurge, book the Grand Getaway which lasts for four hours and includes a massage, facial, and pedicure!

2. People Watch –

One of my favorite ways to take a few minutes in the parks to relax is to people watch. Simply find a shady spot, perhaps pick up a snack along the way, and enjoy the atmosphere and people watch for a few minutes. It’s a great way to rest your feet and up your energy before heading to your next attraction. One of the best places to people watch? The curb of Main Street before each parade.

1. Ride the TTA –

Throughout all of Walt Disney World, there is no attraction more conducive to taking it easy than the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover (or TTA). Taking guests along for a smooth ride on the highway in the sky, the TTA offers guests a chance to sit, put their feet up, and enjoy the amazing views of Tomorrowland. Combine that with a soft breeze and little to no wait and guests will understand why the TTA is the ultimate way to take it easy for a few minutes on a busy day in the Magic Kingdom.

About Caitlin Kane

Caitlin Kane first started visiting Walt Disney World when she was two years old, and despite spending most of that trip quarantined with the chicken pox she managed to fall in love with the place. Visiting WDW every year since, she especially loves learning all about the history and small details of the parks and eating/drinking her way through the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival each fall. When she's not in Disney, Caitlin lives in New York and spends her time counting down the days to her next trip.
