Are you hungry for a sweet treat every time you visit one of the amazing parks at Walt Disney World? While the Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar and sweet-smelling cotton candy might first come to mind, there are an endless variety of sugary choices to tempt your sweet tooth. Catch a whiff of the candy goodness floating in the air as you walk past the Confectionary on Main Street USA in the Magic Kingdom, or check out the enticing rows of artful cupcakes beckoning to guests in the bakery display cases in Big Top Treats in New Fantasyland.  If you’re strolling around the World Showcase in Epcot, follow your nose to the sweet smells wafting from Karamell-Kuche in the Germany pavilion. Walt Disney World makes it very hard to resist all of the delectable goodies guaranteed to give guests a sugar rush. Out of all the treats in Walt Disney World, the caramel concoctions are my favorite, with the perfect amount of gooey sweetness.  Luckily, they seem to be popping up in more and more bakeries, restaurants, and snack shops, and many of them qualify as a snack credit if you’re on the Disney Dining Plan.  The next time you’re looking for a tasty dessert, mid-day snack, or delicious souvenir to take home, check out these fantastic caramel treats that are at the top of my list.

1. Caramel Apples

A perennial favorite, the caramel apple never goes out of style. Walt Disney World offers these sweet treats at a few different bakeries and candy shops, including Zuri’s Sweets Shop at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Big Top Treats in New Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom. The best place, in my opinion, to pick up a caramel apple is the Main Street Confectionary, where you can watch the apples being hand dipped in chocolate and caramel. These aren’t your ordinary apples, because Walt Disney World decorates the apples for different holidays and for your favorite characters too!

2. Anything from Karamell-Kuche

It’s impossible to walk by this shop in the Germany pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase without being drawn into it. The magical scent of buttery Werther’s caramel floats through the shop, and it continues throughout all of the shops connected to it. Stop in to watch the cast members create the tempting concoctions by hand and then get in line, because you’ll definitely want to purchase as much as possible. Everything is delicious here, although I recommend the salted caramel fudge brownies, the caramel-filled cookies, and the caramel-drizzled pineapple spears

3. Caramel Popcorn

A classic treat, caramel popcorn is available in several locations throughout Walt Disney World, but I love getting it at Big Top Treats in New Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom or at the Karamell-Kuche in Epcot’s World Showcase. This salty and sweet snack is a great treat to take with you as you’re enjoying the parks, it’s easy to take back home, and it’s virtually impossible to stop eating!

4. Churros with Caramel Sauce

Stroll through the Mexico pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase and enjoy tasty Mexican cuisine and margaritas at La Cantina de San Angel, a popular quick-service eatery. The churros make a perfect dessert, especially when drizzled with sweet caramel.

5. Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake

Head over to the Liberty Tree Tavern in the Magic Kingdom for a delicious meal in a charming colonial inn. Save room for the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake, a tasty treat of cake, toffee bits, and ice cream covered in creamy caramel sauce. This dessert is always on my must-eat list when visiting the Magic Kingdom!

6. Ocean Beach Sea Salt Caramel Sundae

While you’re strolling and shopping at Disney Springs, stop in at the Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop for a delicious caramel concoction. While everything in the menu is wonderful, the Ocean Beach Sea Salt Caramel Sundae can’t be beat. It starts with vanilla ice cream, sea salt caramel sauce, sweet hot fudge with whipped cream, and finally milk chocolate squares on top.

7. Fried Twinkie with Caramel Sauce

The Friar’s Nook in Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom is the place to be for this sweet snack. A delicious Hostess Twinkie is made even better when it’s deep fried and thoroughly drizzled with caramel sauce. It’s the perfect blend of a crispy outside and gooey goodness inside. If you prefer a different topping, strawberry, vanilla, or chocolate sauces are also available.

8. Chocolate Caramel Cheesecake

Cheesecake is awesome all by itself, and adding creamy caramel and chocolate makes it amazing. Find this treat, packaged in convenient individually-sized portions, at the Marketplace at Disney’s Beach Club Resort.

Having visited Walt Disney World several times growing up, I really caught the Disney bug after many trips with my husband. Now I am happily addicted to taking our son to Walt Disney World as often as possible and watching him experience the magic and Mickey Bars as he grows up. Traveling to Walt Disney World twice a year, I enjoy attending the Flower and Garden festival held in the spring and strolling around the World Showcase, as well as exploring all of the hidden gems that all four parks have to offer. I love helping my family and friends plan their next Disney trips based on my experiences. I also enjoy reading, swimming, traveling, and cheering for the Pittsburgh Steelers. I grew up in Southwestern Pennsylvania, attended Shippensburg University, and current live in suburban Philadelphia with my husband, son, and two cats.
