The Jurassic World brand has been riding a huge wave of popularity since the 2015 reboot shattered box office records and brought dinosaurs back into the cultural spotlight.
Now, with Jurassic World Rebirth hitting theaters next week (July 2), comparisons to the 2015 monster hit are inevitable. Interestingly, this year also marks the 10-year anniversary of the fourth film, which was directed by Colin Trevorrow, who returned to helm the short film Battle at Big Rock and 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion.
Jurassic World (2015) was a major success both financially and critically. It earned over $1.6 billion worldwide thanks to a winning mix of nostalgia, state-of-the-art visual effects, and new characters (Chris Pratt’s Owen Grady and Bryce Dallas Howard’s Claire Dearing).
Fans and critics also applauded its thrilling action and ability to rekindle the magic of the original Jurassic Park (1993) without feeling like a complete re-tread.
Fast forward to Rebirth, and the challenge is clear: can this new installment capture that same lightning in a bottle? Well, early reviews suggest mixed results. While we won’t get into any spoiler territory, you might remember that the initial trailer’s focus on mutant dinosaurs and out-of-place comical moments divided the fanbase.

Jurassic World Rebirth vs. Jurassic World (2015)
The 2015 film set a high standard, combining thrills, heart, and blockbuster spectacle in a way that few sequels have matched.
With Gareth Edwards (2014’s Godzilla) as director and original Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) screenwriter David Koepp having penned the script, and with a new cast led by Scarlett Johansson (Avengers: Endgame), on paper Rebirth sounds like a guaranteed hit. But whether it will replicate the critical acclaim and massive box office haul of 2015’s Jurassic World remains to be seen when it roars into theaters on July 2.
