‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Proves The Franchise Is Beyond Saving

Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) is making a lot of money—$529 million globally (per Variety) and counting. But let’s not kid ourselves—just because a movie soars at the box office doesn’t mean it’s any good. And if this is the future of Jurassic, it’s time to let the dinosaurs die.

Screenwriter David Koepp and director Gareth Edwards promised a back-to-basics thriller. What we got is a soulless monster hunt on yet another forgotten and forgettable island, complete with a stock team of experts and a script so thin you can almost see through it.

Scarlett Johansson does what she can as covert ops lead Zora Bennett, but she’s trapped in a story with no weight and even less logic. Spinosaurus attacks out at sea might make for some thrilling sequences, but where are the stakes? Where’s the tension? Where’s the horror?

This is a movie that tries to sell itself on spectacle, but even the spectacle feels tired. The dino VFX look good, but that’s to be expected. What audiences actually wanted—atmosphere, dread, mystery—is nowhere to be found. Instead, we get neutered kills and none of the magic that made the original 1993 film—heck, even most of the other sequels—so special.

But the real problem (the unforgivable one) is how Rebirth wipes out the last two films like they never happened. Fallen Kingdom (2018) ended with dinosaurs loose in the human world and Dominion (2022) pushed that idea further, suggesting a new global status quo.

But Rebirth scrubs it all away. Now, dinosaurs are dying off because they can’t breathe our air. The few survivors have wandered down to the equator. This isn’t just lazy—it’s insulting.

For longtime fans, that was the last straw. Now, many are saying on X (Twitter) they want a full reboot of the entire franchise. An R-rated take and a faithful series more authentic to Michael Crichton’s two best-selling novels, “Jurassic Park” and “The Lost World”.

And who could blame them? The franchise has spent 30 years building a world only to nuke it for a generic survival flick that might as well be a spin-off or something without the Jurassic brand all over it. Rebirth isn’t just a misstep—it’s proof this series has lost its way.
