Amazon MGM Finds Its New James Bond Actor, Official Announcement Coming Soon: Report

After months of rumors about actors landing the role of James Bond and alleged shortlists naming all the hopefuls, several reports now claim Amazon MGM Studios has finally narrowed its search to a select group of actors who are expected to screen-test for 007 in the coming days.

According to sources, Callum Turner (Eternity), Jack Lowden (Slow Horses), and Josh O’Connor (Disclosure Day) are in the running for those screen tests, which are said to be taking place in London this weekend.

If you’ve been keeping up with all the Bond coverage over the last few months, you’ll know that Turner and Lowden have been mentioned several times already and were most recently included on those rumored shortlists alongside other actors such as Jack Barton (SAS: Rogue Heroes).

Who Is the New James Bond?

Sources claim that these are the three actors in the mix. If these reports are true, the chances are that one of them will be the new Bond, meaning Amazon MGM has already found its 007 — even if it doesn’t quite known which of them will inherit the number.

But with all that said, the studio has added no update to the statement it made earlier this year.

“The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right,” the studio said in May, while revealing that Nina Gold would be leading the search.

Most recently, though, one of the film’s producers, Amy Pascal (Spider-Man: Brand New Day), told Deadline that we may learn who the new 007 is by the end of this year.

“I would say the end of the year is a good bet. We are being really, really methodical,” she said, adding that the new iteration of Bond has “got to be something really different that is stirring and exciting and different.”

What Do We Know About the New 007 Film?

The untitled Bond film is being directed by Denis Villeneuve (Dune) and written by Steven Knight (the creator of Peaky Blinders). It’s expected to launch a new era for 007 following Daniel Craig’s five-film tenure, which included five entries: Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015), and No Time to Die (2021).

Similarly, the new actor, who will become the seventh person to play Bond in film following Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Craig, is also expected to carry the franchise forward across a number of films.

There’s no release date for Amazon MGM’s Bond reboot; however, the character has returned across multiple new projects, including the game 007 First Light (2026) and several novels from Ian Fleming Publications. Upcoming projects include the audio dramatization of Charlie Higson’s 2005 Young Bond novel SilverFin and a brand-new Bond comic series from IDW Publishing.
