This Classic Tomorrowland Attraction Might Be Updating With the Voice Talents of Veteran Actor Tom Hanks

In order to keep classic attractions as enjoyable as possible, Walt Disney Imagineers occasionally have to make updates, so the experiences don’t become outdated. As for the classic Magic Kingdom attraction, Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, there’s a ‘great big beautiful tomorrow’ in the works.

Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress is an attraction all about celebrating the steps we take to move forward as the human race. Making strides in technology, culture, and, most importantly, imagination are all resounding themes of the ride.

The unique attraction debuted at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, reopened at Disneyland in 1967, and then moved to Walt Disney World in 1975, so the ride is no stranger to change.

The latest updates came in the year 1994, and they brought a change in the script and a new voice actor for the role of the father, John, who also acts as the narrator for the ride.

Now, according to the latest rumors, Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress is due for another update for the voice of John.

The current voice Guests can hear is Jean Shepherd, known for his expansive career and role of the narrator in A Christmas Story (1983).

As the legendary entertainer passed away in 1999, Walt Disney World has decided to let him rest in peace and pass the torch onto another actor.

When Shepherd replaced Rex Allen as the voice of John, the original actor was given a cameo as the grandfather in the attraction’s final scene. We wonder if the same will happen to Jean Shepherd! We’re also wondering who will replace him. If the rumors are anything to go by, it may be veteran actor Tom Hanks.

Tom Hanks has been acting for decades, and the characters he’s portrayed are incredibly iconic and recognizable. He may be best known for the role of Woody from PIXAR’s Toy Story series.

This rumor is still unconfirmed, and there’s no indication of it being true. But it’s certainly fun to think of how welcoming it would be to have the voice of Woody guiding audiences along Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress!
