Disneyland Resort might be The Happiest Place on Earth, but some Disney Parks fans are questioning whether the theme park is maintaining Walt Disney’s legendary standards of cleanliness. A Reddit post detailing alleged hygiene issues on Star Tours – The Adventures Continue has reignited concerns about upkeep and maintenance at Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park.
Dust Takes Over a Galaxy Far, Far Away
Star Tours debuted at Disneyland in 1987 as the park’s first Star Wars attraction, long before Disney acquired Lucasfilm or created Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Over the years, the iconic simulator ride has entertained generations of fans and undergone upgrades, including its 2011 transformation into Star Tours – The Adventures Continue.
Unfortunately, some guests say the intergalactic attraction hasn’t aged gracefully–but not because of its special effects. In a recent Reddit thread, u/FedorsQuest described “7-inch tall dust piles in Star Tours just above your head when you’re in line.”
The Disney Park guest added that the apparent neglect was “sad and infuriating,” especially since a thorough cleaning would likely take just “an hour for two or three people.”
Star Tours Fans Respond
The claim sparked a heated discussion among Disney Parks fans.
“I saw that but under the impression it was part of the scene, considering it was in the area with all the broken down, previous droid versions,” u/Inevitable-Ear5313 replied.
Former Disneyland Resort cast members also weighed in. u/arrow951, who worked overnight custodial shifts two decades ago, said the current conditions don’t reflect the standards of their time:
“I was the one responsible for cleaning and maintaining that queue line every night… vacuuming, scrubbing the carpets, wiping down every rail, getting down with the droids and making sure everything was presentable… and yes, dusting those rails – every night! It really hurts my heart to see how things have changed over the years.”
Not an Isolated Issue
Other Reddit users noted similar issues on Disneyland Resort’s newer attractions, including Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance.
“You know the little holding cage they put you in for Rise of the Resistance, after you’ve been taken for interrogation? If you walk to the back of the holding area (where it gets skinny) and look up, they’ve already got some major hanging swirls of dust,” said u/lemonsweetsrevenge.
