Not everyone is pleased with the current Walt Disney Company CEO, Bob Chapek. As the company has solidified Chapek’s role with an extension, a petition to replace Chapek with Abgial Disney has emerged and is gaining speed.
Petitions to “Fire Bob Chapek” are nothing new. As Disney fans said goodbye to former Disney CEO Bob Iger, the petition to fire Chapek grew to over 100k signatures. The Disney fandom is tired of some recent decisions Chapek and his team have made, such as getting involved in politics, the upcharge of Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lane additions, and other changes such as Disney’s Park Pass Reservation System.

But, what is this talk about Abigail Disney? Abigail Disney, known as “Disney Heiress” as the granddaughter of Roy Disney (Walt’s brother), has openly shared her thoughts about The Walt Disney Company and what she believes are its failings. Most recently, her criticism of the company was shown as she exposed the poverty level wages in a documentary about Disney Cast Members.
Abigail Disney is well known as a film producer, philanthropist, and social activist, but would she be a good fit as Disney’s CEO? Her reputation for speaking her mind about Disney endeavors has led some Disney fans to suggest CEO Bob Chapek should be replaced by Abigail Disney.
The Change.org petition titled “Replace Bob Chapek with Abigail Disney” currently has 1,150 signatures and counting. The petition states,
“Ever since he became CEO of The Walt Disney Company on February 25, 2020, Bob Chapek has made Disney worse & worse over time. He has allowed the cancellation of projects such as The Owl House and Nimona, along with funding bills and organizations that will put LGBTQIA+ people in grand jeopardy.”
“This has gone far enough, and he needs to be stopped. Remember the time back in the 1990s when Michael Eisner was ruining Disney, the person trying to save it was Roy E. Disney. Well, His daughter Abigail Disney is also highly critical of the company. I think its time we need a new CEO that actually cares for the safety of its fans, which is why I am calling upon the Board of Directors of The Walt Disney Company to fire Bob Iger and replace him with Abigail Disney.”
“Putting her in charge of the company would be doing everyone a big favor, as she is against anti-LGBTQIA and is an active philanthropist. If you must, please share this with everyone you know, your mothers, your fathers, your siblings, everyone must know.”
While petitions are a way for Disney fans to speak their minds, the decisions ultimately come down to The Walt Disney Company and its shareholders. For example, petitions to leave Splash Mountain as is rather than Disney transforming it to its future Tiana’s Bayou Adventure has several supporters, but so does a petition that the ride retheme is necessary.
Ultimately, it’s not up to those signing petitions, but they are good outlets for Disney fans to share their opinions. Will this “Replace Bob Chapek with Abigail Disney” petition gain speed? Time will tell.
