Aerial Photos Reveal Current State of Closed Disney Park

The Walt Disney World Resort is currently in the midst of its holiday celebrations, and the first “complete” festivities since 2019 to be clear, with the return of Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party to the Magic Kingdom.

At the same time, it is winter, and some attractions, experiences, and even a Park are either already undergoing refurbishments (or will be soon). And we’ve got the latest update on the current state of Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, which has now been closed for its annual refurbishment since November 13, 2022.

Both Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach typically undergo annual refurbishments, with each water park closing for a short time during the off-season in the winter. The regular schedule has been disrupted since the lengthy closure of the entire Walt Disney World Resort at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

When the Resort reopened, Blizzard Beach was available shortly after until it closed in January of this year. While Typhoon Lagoon had reopened then, Blizzard Beach remained closed until November 13, 2022. Staffing challenges that continue at Walt Disney World and across most industries are likely a major culprit in the change in water park operations; however, it should be noted that both Parks have not been open at the same time since 2019.

Twitter user @bioreconstruct recently shared some aerial photography of the Disney Park, offering a glimpse into the work that has taken place during Typhoon Lagoon’s refurbishment so far. In the photo above, we can see a view of the temporary path installed on the floor of the wave pool, a regular part of the maintenance schedule for Typhoon Lagoon.

Below, we see a photo looking straight down over the Park offering a clear view of the wave pool as well as other favorite attractions and water slides like Crush ‘n’ Gusher, Humunga Kowabunga, Gang Plank Falls, Castaway Creek, Keelhaul Falls, Miss Adventure Falls, and more.

Disney has not yet announced a reopening date for Typhoon Lagoon, and so far, it looks like the Park is in for its regular routine maintenance with no major changes. Disney is always surprising us, though, as the new theming inspired by Frozen (2013) at Blizzard Beach was not announced or revealed to fans until shortly before the Park reopened last month.

We will continue to monitor updates to Typhoon Lagoon as the Park’s refurbishment continues, and will report back here with more information as we have it. In the meantime, be sure to visit Blizzard Beach on your next trip to Walt Disney World, and don’t miss the new Frozen-inspired touches!
